Summer is in full swing, which means that the summer vacationers are at the Walt Disney World Resort. Summer at the theme parks is considered peak season, meaning prices are at their highest and so are the crowds. While the high crowds visiting the Parks right now would make it seem like an inopportune time for attractions and experiences to be closed, there is never a good time at Disney World. Because of that, Disney will have certain rides under refurbishment most months of the year.

Here is your guide to which attractions, shops, and restaurants (if any) will be unavailable at the Walt Disney World Resort this August.
Magic Kingdom
- Walt Disney World Railroad – Frontierland – Temporarily Unavailable
- Walt Disney World Railroad – Fantasyland – Temporarily Unavailable
- Walt Disney World Railroad – Main Street, U.S.A. – Temporarily Unavailable
- The Hall of Presidents
- Main Street Confectionery
The Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed for months as work continues on the highly anticipated Tron Lightcycle Power Run in Tomorrowland. The new roller coaster was originally scheduled to be open in time for the start of Disney World’s 50 Anniversary celebration on October 1, but the pandemic has put things incredibly far behind schedule. There is currently no opening date for the ride.

Magic Kingdom’s Hall of Presidents is closed shortly after the election of President Joe Biden — which happens each time a new President is elected. Disney recently shared a look inside the closed attraction and announced that it would be opening to Guests again in August. However, an official opening date has not been given, which is why the attraction remains on the Refurbishment list for the entire month.

The Main Street Confectionery also remains closed with no reopening date being given at this time. The popular Main Street sweet shop has been closed since March for what Disney said would be a lengthy refurbishment. Most recently, construction barriers were seen around the store, so it will be exciting to see what the finished product will look like!

Typhoon Lagoon Water Park
Typhoon Lagoon Water Park is another Disney location that has been closed for months. Aerial views of the Park have shown it looking empty, dry, and almost abandoned. However, Disney recently filed construction permits to continue working on the popular water park. However, Guests visiting in August will have to travel to Blizzard Beach for their water park needs.

No opening date has been announced for Typhoon Lagoon at this time.
EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom
At the time of publication, no refurbishments are listed for EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, or Hollywood Studios. However, it is important to remember that just because nothing is listed, that does not mean rides will be available. Anything can happen at the Parks at any time, thunderstorms are common, and rides can shut down unexpectedly.
