Updates to Buffet-Style Dining on Disney Cruise Ships
In an update to the Disney Cruise Line website, Disney has shared how buffets and other self-serve food and beverage options will work onboard Disney Cruise Line this August (and, presumably, for the foreseeable future).
Here is what the website reads, as of Friday, July 23:
Quick-Service Food & Beverage Locations
Quick service food and beverage locations, including buffets, still offer all-you-care-to-eat bites and treats, and are served by Crew Members at designated times each day throughout the cruise. All food and beverages that were previously available at self-service stations will now be served by Crew Members.
As Disney indicates above, the Cabanas buffet will still be available for Guests, but all food will be served by Crew Members. Additionally, any food and beverage offering that was previously at a self-service station on the ship will no longer be self-service. This is part of Disney’s efforts to promote health and safety as the cruise ships return to sea and welcome passengers back onboard.

Note that Disney has not yet shared whether traditional, self-serve buffets and food and beverage will make a comeback to Disney Cruise Line ships in the future. However, we do know that the newest Disney Cruise ship, the Disney Wish, does not have Cabanas, the all-you-care-to-enjoy buffet onboard the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wonder, and Disney Magic.

More About Cabanas on Disney Cruise Line
Below is the official description of Cabanas:
Cabanas is a novel, free-flowing buffet experience serving made-to-order mouthwatering specialties. During breakfast and lunch, wander the “boardwalk”—home to over 10 diverse food stations—and partake in an eclectic menu of freshly prepared, culinary classics. At dinnertime, the restaurant is transformed into a table-service dining experience where entrees are cooked to order in the show kitchen.
