When filming Mrs. Doubtfire, Lisa Jakub, who played Williams and Sally Field’s eldest daughter, Lydia Hillard, had a tough time dealing with being a student while on set. In an interview, the actress recalled how Williams helped her get through shooting while struggling to keep up with her school work.
‘One day on set, I was very upset, because I had received this letter from my high school saying that it was too difficult for them to work long-distance with me and that I just shouldn’t come back to high school. And I was really upset about that, and Robin, just being perceptive and kindhearted, reached out and was like, “Hey, what’s going on?”‘ she said. ‘I told him what happened, and he wrote a letter to my school asking them to please reconsider. Would they work with me in trying to balance my education and my career? And he didn’t think that that was fair.’

Williams wrote the letter and sent it to the school administration. The letter was reportedly framed; however, it seems that the school’s mind was already made up to keep Jakub enrolled while she was on set. Jakub continued to note that although the letter did not work, she needed someone to stick up for her, and Robin was the person to do that out of the kindness of his own heart.
