As Disney World continues its phased reopening, Guests are starting to see a lot more normalcy return to the parks. One of the latest changes includes the Dumbo-themed play area inside Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom.

In case you missed it, Disney World has removed mandatory face coverings for Guests while they are outdoors, temperature checks are gone, physical distancing markers are beginning to be removed in certain areas of the theme parks, capacity has increased, and physical distancing on attractions has also begun to disappear.

One aspect of Disney World theme parks that have remained closed throughout the pandemic was the children’s play areas. Whether you are at EPCOT, Magic Kingdom, or your Disney World Resort, the play area for children has been sectioned off as it is a high-touch zone and would be nearly impossible to enforce physical distancing.

At Magic Kingdom, one of the coolest aspects about the Fantasyland attraction, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, is that when Guests are waiting, they have the opportunity to receive a pager and play around in the circus tent instead of waiting in the physical line. The tent is filled with fun activities and slides for children, but it was closed due to COVID-19.

Inside, the Magic spoke with Disney, who confirmed that the play area is once again open! This is the first play area to reopen at the Walt Disney World Resort, which is great news to parents looking forward to more play areas opening soon.

All Guests must wear a face covering while in the play area, but aside from that, kids are free to run and play, just as they would have before the pandemic! The capacity for the play area is not operating at 100% as of yet, but many Guests can enjoy the area.

If we take a look at the description of the attraction, we can see that the play area is a highlight of the attraction:

An “Ear”-born Adventure
Based on the 1941 Disney animated masterpiece Dumbo, this classic attraction lets you hop atop everybody’s favorite circus elephant as he discovers he can fly. Dumbo’s faithful friend Timothy Q. Mouse helps keeps you aloft with his “magic” feather.

As the jubilant organ melody begins, lift off for a graceful cruise around (and around and around) Storybook Circus.

Fly High or Stay Low
You can adjust your altitude during your flight, so you can soar high or swoop low.

Play While You Wait
Before your flight, step into the big-top tent and let your wild animals frolic in an air-conditioned children’s playground for all ages. You’ll be alerted when it’s time to board your flight!

Universal Orlando Resort recently opened their play areas as well, so it seems that both theme parks are on track to return to a more normal state of operations.

Keep following along with Inside the Magic as we continue to report on the ongoing changes at the theme parks during these unprecedented times.
