For many, being a member of the Disney Vacation Club is worth the amount of money that is initially required to join. Sure, it’s expensive, but now you can travel the world every year and be able to experience Disney magic in the heart of London or the plains of Africa. There are also some great discounts that you can receive on merchandise, dining, tickets, and more if you purchase a minimum number of points when you first become a DVC member.
When the minimum points requirement was first introduced at Disney Vacation Club in 2018, the number of points required at initial purchasing was 75 points. The initial DVC purchasing requirement has steadily increased over the years and is now at a whopping 150 points. The Disney Vacation Club website now states:
Effective June 3, 2021, to obtain a Disney Vacation Club Membership Card, Members must accumulate a total of at least 150 Vacation Points purchased directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc. Disney and Concierge Collections options are not available for ownership interests not purchased directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc. after March 21, 2011, and, effective April 4, 2016, Members who have not purchased an ownership interest directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc. will not have access to Membership Extras.
It is important for Guests to note that points purchased through Disney Vacation Club resellers do not count towards the point minimum. It should also be noted that the new 150 point minimum is only required for new members of the Disney Vacation Club. Members who met previous minimum point requirements with their initial purchases are still able to receive their discounts.
What makes this price increase particularly interesting is that not only did Disney Vacation Club increase the minimum just this past October, but there are also a number of perks that used to be offered, but are not offered at this time due to changes made during the pandemic — which include special events for DVC members and the special Gold Pass purchase option, which is not available due to the suspension of Annual Pass sales.
