Even when Disney doesn’t plan to completely retheme an area, updates need to be made from time to time.
The Florida sun is powerful and can take a toll on many of the colors you see when you enter Disney World. From building colors to statues to posters — the sun can cause once vibrant colors to fade, and Disney has to step in and fix it. For example, the poster that welcomes Guests onto Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster Starring Aerosmith at Disney’s Hollywood Studios was given some extra life this year as it was replaced with a new and much more vibrant poster.

At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Pandora — The World of Avatar also needs to be refreshed from time to time, even if the land is only a few years old! If you have been to Pandora at night, you likely have noticed that from the trees to the ground, the land glows with bioluminescence. Considering the floor is not only beat by the Florida sun, but also takes thousands of footsteps a day, the paint needs to be refreshed from time to time to ensure that the evening glow is bright.

Now, it seems that Guests entering Animal Kingdom over the next couple of days will be met with barricades in Pandora as the floor paint is being completely redone. Inside the Magic spoke with a Cast Member who confirmed that the paint was being touched up, and we could smell it as well! It appears that Disney paints overnight. However, to ensure it dries correctly, barricades have been put up to protect the area.

The construction should last a “couple of days,” according to Cast Members. The barricades begin in the entrance area to Pandora and extend past Na’vi River Journey. The floating mountain area will be done next, and painting will continue until Satuli Canteen is reached.
