Each month we break down what attractions will be unavailable at Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay.
Here are the attractions in May that will not be available so you can better plan for your visit to Universal Orlando Resort.
Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay are home to many fantastic attractions for thrill-seekers and the whole family! Because the theme parks are open year-round there are times that some attractions will be unavailable when you visit as they undergo some routine maintenance.
It is important to know that even though this is a list of scheduled maintenance, there are some times when an attraction may be unavailable unexpectedly during your visit. Be sure to download the Universal Orlando app to your phone for the most up-to-date information on attractions during your trip.
Here is what will we know will be closed in May so that you can plan accordingly!
Universal Studios Florida
- Fievel’s Playland
- Curious George Goes to Town
- FEAR FACTOR LIVE
Just like in April, the children’s play areas of Universal Studios Florida remain closed. We believe this is a precaution amid the pandemic as the playgrounds are “high-touch” areas that would be difficult to clean often. We hope to see them reopen in the future, but for now, Fievel’s Playland and Curious George Goes to Town remain closed.
Additionally, Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl is operating intermittently, so be sure and check out your Universal Orlando app when you are inside the park to see if the attraction is operating during your visit.

- Storm Force Accelatron
None of these attractions are reopening in May and remain closed through the month according to Universal.
As Islands of Adventure is gearing up to open the VelociCoaster on June 10, we hope that will bring the reopening of Jurassic Park Discovery Center. For now, the Discovery Center alongside the rest of the attractions above remain closed.
Volcano Bay is open and ready for the warmer temperatures that coming to Orlando this summer! Everything at Volcano Bay is currently open, and there are no current scheduled refurbishments for any attractions at Volcano Bay in May.
These refurbishments listed above are mostly including those experiences that are high-touch and not rides, so there is still plenty to do on your Universal Orlando Resort vacation!
