Judy Hopps, the first bunny to ever join Zootopia’s police department, is one of the most determined Disney characters out there. Despite being constantly put down by her peers and even by the police department itself, Ms. Hopps never let any of that get to her and continued to pursue her dreams of becoming a police officer.
And now, one police department located in Arkansas has found inspiration from this ambitious bunny and has hired their very own Judy Hopps!
Valdez Police Department took to Facebook to share a photo of Officer McCumby and his new bunny partner — Luke Skyhopper. The first certified Hare Handler has been trained to sniff out narcotics, joining his K-9 counterparts!
After many years of working without any narcotics scent detection teams locally, we are pleased to announce the implementation of a cutting edge pilot program. We will be testing the feasibility of using a vastly underutilized local resource to solve a longstanding and typically very expensive problem. Following in the footsteps of our Scandanavian law enforcement brethren, we are pleased to introduce the first team of its kind in Alaska. Pictured below is our first certified Hare Handler, Officer McCumby and his new partner Luke Skyhopper.
We’ve found these local feral rabbits are surprisingly easy to train and have an acute sense of smell on par with their K-9 counterparts. We hope to have this team state certified at the very next scent detection academy. For any would-be drug traffickers in our area, consider yourselves forewarned.

We do want to note that this announcement came on April 1 — Also known as April Fools’ Day. Despite this being a joke, how cool would it be to have a real-life Judy Hopps?
In the wise words of Judy herself, just remember to always be true to yourself, and you will make a difference in the world:
“When I was a kid, I thought Zootopia was this perfect place where everyone got along and anyone could be anything. Turns out, real life’s a little bit more complicated than a slogan on a bumper sticker. Real life is messy. We all have limitations. We all make mistakes. Which means―hey, glass half full―we all have a lot in common. And the more we try to understand one another, the more exceptional each of us will be. But we have to try. So no matter what type of animal you are, from the biggest elephant to our first fox, I implore you: Try. Try to make the world a better place. Look inside yourself, and recognize that change starts with you. It starts with me. It starts with all of us.”
