Credit: Disney Parks BlogIt’s been a while since we have taken a look at the Disney Genie, a new technology that Disney announced back in 2019 at their D23 expo.
From what was announced then, we learned that this new app would allow Guests to easily plan their Disney vacation — I mean, you do have the magical Genie from Aladdin on your side!
What is meant to do is provide itineraries to Guests who may not know what to do next, or, who may not know what attractions and offerings they would enjoy best. The Disney Genie is meant to smooth out the entire process of planning a Disney vacation, which at times, can be very stressful. With 25+ resorts, four theme parks, two water parks, a shopping, and eatery center, all within a property the size of San Francisco, there is so much to do, and having someone help you iron out your choices will be a huge bonus, especially to first-timers visiting the Walt Disney World Resort.
Well, today during a virtual presentation called “A Special Look Inside Disney Parks,” Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Josh D’Amaro was once again discussing the new Disney Genie technology! After not hearing about it for quite some time, it is great to know that the Disney Genie is still something that The Walt Disney Company is continuing to work on.
D’Amaro was shared that the Disney Genie would help Guests optimize their entire day, and would re-optimize their plans at the touch of a button if Guests have to change their mind or want to do something different. The Disney Genie will rethink your Disney day for you and come up with suggestions for what you should do and where you should go next.
Personally, I think that having the opportunity to have your own personal Disney guide with you at all times is fantastic, and it is even better that Guests are dealing with an app and not a person! I know that when I keep changing plans and someone else needs to help me, I sometimes feel hesitant, but knowing that I have the control and the app is essentially catering to my needs without having to bother anyone will truly enhance the Disney World vacation experience.
Often, Guests visiting Disney World will have their plans organized by a very detailed itinerary, but it is important to remember that even on vacation, things don’t always go as planned! Whether someone in your party doesn’t feel well, a ride breaks down, the weather changes, you change your mind, or really, anything goes awry — your plans can alter at the drop of a hat, and if you spent hours working on them, that can be really stressful. It seems as though the Disney Genie will be able to always ensure that if you need your plans to change, you can still have a magical day and you are given suggestions for what to do instead, always ensuring you get the most out of your vacation.Â

Considering MagicMobile was also just released, it seems that Disney is continuing to focus on how mobile devices can have the Guest experience while in the parks. That being said, we are currently unsure as to when Disney Genie will be available to Guests. It would be fantastic to see it launch in time for the 50th anniversary celebration, but we’ll have to see!
