The couple announced their son was named after Culkin’s sister, Dakota, who passed away in 2008 after being hit by a car while crossing the street in Los Angeles.
They first reported the birth to Esquire magazine.
The couple has been together for several years. According to Esquire:
The couple met on a movie set in Thailand a few years ago—for Changeland, a funny, moving story about friendship (directed by Culkin’s old friend Seth Green). They moved in together, to a charming house, and Culkin painted a yellow brick road leading to the front door. They wear matching pajamas. Song bakes bread—she was baking bread long before the pandemic. They have animals: three cats (the youngest is one he got her for Christmas 2019, named Santa), a few fish, a Shiba Inu, and a blue-headed pionus, which is a parrot.
Song is best known to Disney fans for her role as London Tipton, hotel heiress, in the Disney Channel original series The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. The series ran from 2005 until 2008 and also starred Cole and Dylan Sprouse and Ashely Tisdale. Song then reprised her role as Tipton for the Suite Life spin-off, Suite Life on Deck.
The Suite Life of Zach & Cody made Song a star within the Disney universe. The show is described by Disney;
Twin brothers Zack and Cody get to live with their single mom in Boston’s swankiest hotel. The boys have a hard time staying out of trouble and enjoy treating the hotel like their own personal playground.
Song has also appeared in several other Disney Channel shows, including Phineas and Ferb, Hannah Montana, and Wizards of Waverly Place. She was also in multiple Disney Channel movies Get A Clue, Stuck in the Suburbs, and Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior.
Currently, the actress is on the Disney show, Amphibia.
Dakota Song Culkin is the first child for both Song and Culkin. They released a short message to Esquire after the birth, simply saying, “We’re overjoyed”.
Join us in congratulating the couple on the birth of their healthy baby boy!
