With the start of Taste of Universal on March 12, guests were able to step back into the park for the first time in over a year.  The familiar sights and sounds of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and the Simpson’s hometown of Springfield greeted guests as they treated themselves to Butterbeer and Krusty burgers. One new area was also showcased with the newest Universal attraction; The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash.

With all the excitement of the park opening up for the Taste of Universal event, let’s take a look at some of the latest park news!

When Universal announced their hard-ticketed event Taste of Universal to rival A Touch of Disney, tickets quickly sold out.  In fact, the event was so popular, that Universal announced a week later that it was adding several more dates.

Tickets vary in price, with Thursdays and Fridays being the cheapest at $44 plus tax and Saturdays being the most expensive at $54 plus tax.  The event began on March 12 and is currently scheduled to run through April 11.  The only ticket dates currently available for purchase are Thursday, April 1, and Thursday, April 8.

You can purchase tickets for those dates here.

Originally announced on February 20, 2020, and slated to open March 27, 2020, The Secret Life of Pets: Off The Leash opening was unfortunately delayed due to the spread of Covid-19.  With the start of Taste of Universal, guests can now visit the completed area where the buildings are all shiny and new, with a brand-new store focused on merchandise featuring the film’s stars.

According to the Universal Hollywood website, the new ride will give guests the chance to visit the streets of New York City with Max, Gidget, and more of the film’s favorite characters!

Construction on the Super Mario World area of the theme park continues to move along! No official opening date has been announced, but crews are currently working hard to get the area completed as soon as possible.

Super Mario World at Universal Studios Japan opened on March 18 to rave reviews and long wait times.  With the popularity of Super Mario Bros throughout the world, it is almost certain that the Super Nintendo World expansion at Universal Studios Hollywood will enjoy the same type of excitement.  While nothing has been confirmed, based on the pictures of the ongoing construction, it appears Universal Studios Hollywood guests will also be able to ride the incredibly popular Mario Kart attraction.

Gru’s Lab Café in the Super Silly Fun Land Area of the park has officially been renamed Minion Café.  Along with the new name comes a menu shakeup.  Gone is the Stir-Fried Asian Chicken, Dr. Nefario’s Lab Salad, and the BBQ Rotisserie Chicken and in its place are Chicken Bacon Ranch Mac and Cheese, Chicken Cesar Salad, and Loaded Tots.  Also on the new menu is a pudding containing hazelnuts and every minion’s favorite food, bananas!
