If you like music, theater, or American politics, you likely have already heard of Hamilton. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s rap musical swept Broadway by storm, with performances selling out instantly. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, of course, all Broadway and touring performances of Hamilton have had to come to a halt for almost a full year now.
Lucky for Disney fans, however, Hamilton is now streaming on Disney+! The streaming service bought the filmed performance in a bidding war and released it to Disney and Broadway fans alike in summer 2020, giving fans amazing content to look forward to during the pandemic. Having Hamiton as an easily streamable musical allowed viewers to experience something that had been taken away due to COVID-19, plus, the recording is with the original cast including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Phillipa Soo, Jonathan Groff, and many talented performers!
Now, it seems that Hamilton fans want to see another recorded stage performance! A petition has been created on Change.org titled, “Get Hamilton to perform in Super Bowl 2022 Halftime show”. At the moment, the petition is still clearly in the early stages with under 100 signatures, but considering the popularity of Hamilton, this proposal is not too surprising to hear. It also would also be the first time a Broadway production would take the stage for the Super Bowl halftime show. That being said, at the moment, these are just wishes of fans, and Hamilton has not been confirmed or discussed in regards to next year’s Super Bowl.
As we previously reported, Lin-Manuel’s historical fiction work has already won several awards during its first year on Broadway, dominating the 2015-2016 Tony Awards.
