Disney Plans More Construction For Cinderella Castle - Inside the Magic

Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom in Disney World recently went through a major refurbishment where the pastel colors of the castle were dialed up to a royal blue and bright pink. The new colors definitely help the castle stand out even more while you head down Main Street U.S.A., and with the newly refurbished Magic Kingdom Toll Plaza as well as the Disney World entrance signs, it seems that Disney World is going to have a very regal color scheme as we head into its 50th anniversary. But now, it seems that Disney may still have changes coming to Cinderella Castle.

Walt Disney World Resort has just filed a permit with Icarus Exhibit Inc. to perform “General Construction” on Cinderella Castle. Icarus Exhibits Inc. is a common construction partner for Disney, having been contracted for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT, as well as work in Disney’s Hollywood Studios’s latest land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Considering this contractor is used to working on large and detailed projects for Disney World, this could hint that Cinderella Castle is going to go through another major change, though nothing has been announced yet. This permit may only be a sign that Disney is doing the finishing touches on the refurb and taking care of any remaining work.

With Disney World’s 50th anniversary coming in 2021, this reporter has been wondering if the 2020 Cinderella Castle refurbishment was all that was going to be done — or if Disney had a bigger surprise in their back pocket. During the 25th anniversary, Cinderella Castle became a giant pink birthday cake. The design took many by surprise, completely changing the exterior of the castle. Now that Disney World has doubled in age, finding a way to celebrate that on Cinderella Castle is something that I am personally hoping to see.

At the moment, Disney has not formally announced any additional changes to Cinderella Castle for the 50th anniversary, but hopefully, this permit is a hint that something even more magical is coming our way.
