Credit: Zach RiddleyCinderella Castle, the iconic centerpiece for Magic Kingdom park at Walt Disney World Resort, has gotten a complete makeover! Back in February, Disney announced that in honor of this year’s 70th anniversary of the Walt Disney animated film Cinderella, the castle in Magic Kingdom will be repainted with a gorgeous pink painting and gold detailing.
And now that the makeover is practically complete now at Magic Kingdom, despite construction work being halted for a few months, one of the Walt Disney Imagineering team members took to social media to share some fun facts about the process — Including how the castle was hand-painted from the rocks in the moat all the way to the spires at the top of Cinderella Castle!
Zach Riddley took to Instagram to share these photos along with the caption:
Last month I joined members of our @waltdisneyimagineering team behind the new #CinderellaCastle design as finishing touches were completed. Did you know that the castle was hand painted from the rocks in the moat all the way to the spires at the top of the castle? This allows us to compose each stone and surface for perfect views all around. And many areas were painted with glistening gold for the very first time.Â
Yes, that is correct. The Walt Disney Imagineering team hand-painted the entire castle — Incredible!
Walt Disney World has officially reopened in phases — Magic Kingdom park and Disney’s Animal Kingdom opened the gates on July 11 while EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios opened on July 15. The Resorts on property also will be opening up in phases with each resort having a different reopening date.
