Amid the overwhelmingly positive fan response to Rosario Dawson’s live-action portrayal of Ahsoka Tano in this week’s installment of The Mandalorian, the actress has taken to social media to support the original Ahsoka, voice actress Ashley Eckstein.
Last night, Dawson shared one of Eckstein’s Instagram posts to her story on social media. The original post — which features the “Tano” long-sleeved t-shirt from Eckstein’s Her Universe clothing line — reads:
“It’s #TanoTuesday and I’m thrilled to share that our Tano long sleeve shirt is back in stock on @heruniverse. I also wanted to share my gratitude to everyone during this week of Thanksgiving.” Eckstein posted earlier this week. “A friend of mine taught me this year that ‘The core of wisdom is to overcome self-deception.’ Let that sink in… Our mind can make us believe that we are invisible. One of the worst feelings in the world is to feel invisible. We all just want to be visible and be needed. I feel like we can all relate to this, especially this year.
She added, “If you are feeling this way, please know that I see you. You ARE visible and you ARE needed. Ahsoka said, ‘When you find people who need your help you help them, no matter what.’ I am SO thankful for our incredible community and for all of your help and your support. You always make me feel visible and my heart is eternally grateful. I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving and remember #AhsokaLivesInAllOfUs.”
Soon after Dawson’s casting was announced earlier this year, long-time fans — most of whom who loved Eckstein’s portrayal of Ahsoka Tano in all seven seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars — were not all happy with the news.
Eckstein, however, took the high road regarding Disney and Lucasfilm’s decision sharing this Instagram post soon after Dawson’s Mandalorian role was confirmed:
“The truth is. I am not involved in The Mandalorian. I can’t answer questions for something I have not been a part of. I am an actress and I have performed in all types of mediums; live-action film/television, theater, voice-over, hosting and it has been my dream for 14 years to continue to play Ahsoka Tano in all forms. I will continue to be grateful for opportunities to help create stories for Ahsoka Tano and I am always happy to see her legacy continue. I am only one member of a tremendously talented team of people that it takes to bring Ahsoka Tano to life. The final decisions of Ahsoka are not mine to make and I cannot comment on something that I truly know nothing about.”
What do you think? Are you happy with Rosario Dawson as the live-action version of Ahsoka Tano?
