The holidays have arrived at the Disneyland Resort! Thanks to some eyewitnesses, we’ve seen reports of decorations popping up in Disney California Adventure and even beyond the gates of Disneyland!
This is causing speculation about a possible reopening of Main Street, U.S.A. that could, in theory, be comparable to the November 19 reopening of DCA’s Buena Vista Street. If this is the case, then that means Disneyland’s Main Street will limit their reopening to retail and dining only. BUT — what if this isn’t the case? What if these holiday decorations are for something else.
Disney has already said that there are “not plans” to reopen Disneyland Park in any capacity this year, so the décor is extremely intriguing.
Every year, families around the country sit in front of their televisions to watch the Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Celebration. Although this year’s special will be “reimagined” and different than those of the past, there will still be plenty of holiday magic! Thanks to a stage that was quickly constructed and removed in front of Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World, we think it’s like that the holiday special already filmed, or begun filming, at the Orlando Resort. With Disneyland’s display of holiday decorations, it’s possible filming has begun on the west coast as well.
It makes sense to utilize an empty Disneyland to film the Christmas Day special– although, I’m sure we all would have loved the opportunity to step foot inside Disneyland Park. Thanks to @thecalibae, we can see some of the décor that had Disney fans in a flurry of speculation.
And since publishing this article, we have another update! On the evening of Thursday, November 12, Guests at Downtown Disney noted that a blackout curtain had been put up, blocking the public’s view of Main Street, U.S.A. Some Guests even noticed bright lights and possibly heard music. This leads us to believe that some sort of filming is going on, though we are still hopeful that we’ll get an explanation in the future — whether or not that means Disneyland will reopening for shopping and dining this holiday season.
Although these rumors of a possible Main Street reopening were quickly shut down by some (and others are still holding out hope), Guests still have the reopening of Buena Vista Street! Guests will be able to see holiday decorations in this limited extension of Downtown Disney. We hope to see a lot of Disney holiday offerings during this reopening and throughout the holiday season!
Keep in mind that no official announcement has been made about a possible Main Street reopening. Also, no holiday offerings have been confirmed by the Resort.
