Just when you thought this evening of layoff news for the Disney theme parks could not get any worse, the west coast is once again being hit by the rippling effects of the pandemic.

Disneyland Resort has been seeing major layoffs with Disneyland and Disney California Adventure being closed for over 7 months, with nothing but Downtown Disney keeping the resorts heart pumping. Today it seems that more Disneyland Cast Members are receiving their layoff notices.

Twitter is beginning to flood with Disneyland Cast Members announcing that their time making magic for The Walt Disney Company is sadly coming to a close.

One CM shared:

“So it finally happened. After 4 years of being a cast member at Disneyland, I got laid off because of the pandemic. Thanks covid.”

Another said:

“Today I finally received my email from Disneyland I am very disheartened. Yet at the same time I knew this was going to happen. Ugh…” The saddest thing in this message was the tragedy that this Cast Member was expecting the call, like many other Cast Members at Disney. It is very tragic that people who bring so much joy to Guests have been sitting by their phones for a month waiting for their eviction notice.

Another took to Twitter to announce their departure as well.

“Just found out that I was laid off from Disneyland and now my downward spiral has gotten worse. Working there was one of the greatest joys I’ve had in recent years. And now because we can’t get our shit together to get rid of this virus, I won’t be able to go back for awhile…”

“Scrolling through and seeing who has been laid off… It feels like some awful funeral that just keeps getting added to. It is abundantly clear that we’re losing Disneyland’s most enthusiastic, kindhearted, dedicated, and spirited cast members – such dear, wonderful people.”

And for so many, that is truly the heartbreaking point of this all. Disneyland Cast Members dedicate their time to make others happy.

The Disneyland CM tweets come at the same time as news broke that several Walt Disney Wold Resort entertainment Cast Members have been laid off, as well. From Citizens of Hollywood at Hollywood Studios, to Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor at Magic Kingdom, to the iconic Festival of the Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, today is a sad day for the Walt Disney Company.

Some Disneyland employees however, have been recalled from their furlough due to the opening of Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure. Unfortunately, with CA Governor Newsom’s opening guidelines, it seems that the seven-month closure of Disneyland Resort may last through to summer 2021. Disneyland Resort’s county, Orange County, would need to enter Tier 4 to reopen with strict guidelines, but OC sits in Tier 2.

We continue to hold all Disney Cast Members in our hearts here at Inside the Magic, and we hope you can return to the magic as soon as possible.
