After this morning’s announcement that Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will be closed until Summer 2021, Guests who love the deluxe resort have something exciting to look forward to.

According an Orlando Sentinel report regarding the upcoming closure, a Disney spokesperson said today:

…changes to the rooms will include a move to a Pacific Ocean-inspired color palette as well as details, patterns and textures from Disney’s “Moana,” an animated film that takes place on the Polynesian island of Motunui.

Disney Travel Agents were sent an email regarding the upcoming Polynesian resort closure. It reads:

“As we continue to reopen additional Disney Resort hotels to Guests, we are modifying the reopening date for Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort which will reopen next summer. This schedule adjustment also allows us to complete some refurbishment work at the Resort hotel, including enhancements to the Great Ceremonial House and Guest rooms. We expect work to begin in early October and look forward to sharing more about these changes in the future. The Villas and Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will remain open during this refurbishment.”

The hotel rooms at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort currently feature a brown and sage green color scheme that is reminiscent of the natural scenery is South Pacific island nations. There is no word on how much of the decor will remain the same or how many rooms are undergoing remodeling.

Since the DVC Villas and overwater Bungalows will remain open throughout the Polynesian’s extended closure, it is likely that will not be receiving Moana renovations.

Walt Disney World’s website currently features the following notice regarding Disney Resort hotel reopening dates:

Due to the constantly evolving environment, the reopening timeline for Disney Resort hotels is flexible and subject to change. If the reopening date of your Disney Resort hotel changes, you will be contacted with the option to either modify the reservation to another Disney Resort hotel at no additional cost or to cancel.
