It has been confirmed that Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will not reopen to Guests until Summer 2021.

Although the official Walt Disney Resort website has not yet been updated to reflect this news, a Cast Member confirmed via chat with Inside the Magic that Disney World expects to now begin accepting reservations for the deluxe resort in mid-July 2021.

Previously, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort was set to reopen to all Guests on October 4, 2020.

Disney Travel Agents received the following email regarding the closure:

“As we continue to reopen additional Disney Resort hotels to Guests, we are modifying the reopening date for Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort which will reopen next summer. This schedule adjustment also allows us to complete some refurbishment work at the Resort hotel, including enhancements to the Great Ceremonial House and Guest rooms. We expect work to begin in early October and look forward to sharing more about these changes in the future. The Villas and Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will remain open during this refurbishment.”

Although refurbishment is part of the reason for the Polynesian’s delayed reopening, it could be related to the decline in Florida tourism that has greatly impacted Disney World.

The Polynesian is an extremely popular Disney resort hotel that mimics the look of a South Pacific island village. The official description on the Walt Disney World website reads:

Celebrate the spirit of the South Pacific at this oasis of tropical palms, lush vegetation and so much more. From moonlit nights immersed in the outdoor island ambience to the exotic tastes of our world-class restaurants, discover the signature tropical atmosphere that’s made Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort a favorite Disney destination since 1971.

Although the ‘Ohana restaurant, which offers character dining with Lilo, Stitch, Mickey Mouse, and more, remains temporarily closed, Kona Cafe and the BouTiki gift shop have been open to date.

At this time, Kona Cafe is still offering reservations for the foreseeable future, so it seems that it will remain open until further notice. As always, however, Disney dining options and experiences are subject to change during the theme park’s phased reopening.

Disney has not released details about whether or not these Guest experiences will remain open throughout the Polynesian Village Resort’s lengthy closure or if everything in the resort complex will close until next year.

If you have questions regarding an upcoming reservation, contact Walt Disney World Resort directly for assistance with your vacation. Cast Members will be happy to help Guests find accommodations at other onsite Disney World resorts with no change fees.
