Good news EPCOT fans as we are in the park today and have seen some fantastic progress happening on the new Play! pavilion that is taking over the old Wonders of Life area.
Construction workers are moving at quite the pace in removing a lot of the old triangular roof tiles to give the exterior a good refresh as part of the huge new update to the pavilion. Check out some of the progress that we spotted below while we were at Walt Disney World:
Having been inside the old Wonders of Life pavilion many times over the years (more recently when it was used as a Festival Center for some of the great festivals that EPCOT hosts through the year) we can certainly confirm that the exterior of the building needed some work. There were a few leaks beginning to occur in the roof and it is great that these issues are being addressed as part of the update to this area of the park.
The new Play! pavilion is still scheduled to open in 2021 (though we haven’t seen a recent confirmation of this) and is set to be themed like an interactive city where guests can interact with some of their favorite Disney characters. We know for sure that there’s a Monorail attraction coming to the pavilion and there have been many rumors on an Animation Academy and an attraction hosted by Nick and Judy from Zootopia but all of this is still to be confirmed. Think of the pavilion as a collection of interactive experiences, it’s going to be a fun new experience for sure!
Either way, we are glad that Disney is progressing on another area of EPCOT, especially after plans for construction had changed, and can’t wait to see the Play! pavilion when it opens!
