Twitter was of course filled with grieving fans who shared images and quotes from Black Panther and other films starring Boseman like 42, a 2013 biopic of professional baseball player Jackie Robinson.

Many also commented on the impact that the actor had on Black representation, as he led the first predominantly Black cast in Marvel movie history in 2018’s Black Panther. The African American Community was finally properly represented in a Hollywood superhero blockbuster and the academy awards took notice and the box office reflected how in-demand representation was and still is.

Chadwick Boseman himself first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. After Black Panther, he also starred in Avengers: Infinity War and the highest grossing film of all time, Avengers: Endgame, fulfilling the fantasies of many Marvel fans by appearing alongside heroes like Iron Man and Doctor Strange. Chadwick’s character played an integral role in taking down Thanos along with his fellow heroes.

Fittingly, many tributes were made to Boseman’s character and career by fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe stars and staff. Kevin Feige, Ryan Coogler, and Robert Downey Jr were among those who commented on the T’Challa actor’s life. Captain Marvel star Brie Larson also gave a heartfelt testimony.

Black Panther has also soared to the upper end of VOD services like the Amazon best sellers list and the iTunes Top Movie list, cementing how influential Boseman’s performance in that film was and continues to be.

As always, our thoughts and prayers are with Chadwick’s family at this difficult time.
