Johnny Depp has a long history of dressing as Captain Jack for hospital visits, as he’s previously surprised sick kids at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, where his daughter was treated when she contracted e-coli poisoning.

Though the pandemic stopped him from attending in person, Depp’s visit to Queensland Children‘s Hospital was able to go ahead online. The children were thrilled to be meeting Captain Jack Sparrow, especially when he asked them a series of questions and even sat against a pirate-themed backdrop.

Celebrities visiting kiddie hospitals as an iconic character is nothing new, but to see the Dead Men Tell No Tales actor dress up as his kooky swashbuckling alter ego in such detail from home is quite something.

Speaking of the Queensland hospital, the world’s most famous pirate actor said;

‘It’s a wonderful facility. I’m with all of you and I send you all my love, all my irreverence and ignorance, because it’s fun to be irreverent and ignorant. Thank you for sticking with me through all these very strange years.

‘These three beautiful young people I’ve spoken with this evening and having heard from people who sent videos in, like little Ula, is one of the finest and most beautiful experiences that I’ve ever experienced and that is because of all of your commitment to this project and to taking care of one another and to helping out when times are curious and confusing.’

Seeing this virtual visit and the smiles of the children will warm the cockles of anyone’s heart. Whether Johnny Depp ever returns to play pirate Jack Sparrow remains to be seen, but if anyone deserves to see the character again, it’s these brave kids.
