Hong Kong Disneyland just announced that the theme park would be temporarily closing because of coronavirus, which has been spreading throughout China and has infected around 2,000 people thus far.

The Hong Kong Disney park’s announcement of the temporary closure was made on their social media pages as well as on the park’s official website. You can read the full announcement below, which explains what Hong Kong Disneyland is doing to accommodate for any inconveniences this may cause guests during this time:

As a precautionary measure in line with prevention efforts taking place across Hong Kong, we are temporarily closing Hong Kong Disneyland park out of consideration for the health and safety of our guests and cast members. The Hong Kong Disneyland Resort hotels will remain open. We are in close contact with health authorities and the government about the situation and will announce a reopening date once they determine it is advisable. In the interim, we will be providing refunds to guests who have booked tickets to the park or rooms at our resort hotels. _

The Standard Day Ticket is valid for six months from the purchase date. If needed, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort will assist in the refund for guests who have purchased tickets for admission to Hong Kong Disneyland park or have booked a resort hotel. The temporary closure of Hong Kong Disneyland followed that of Shanghai Disney Resort, which decided to close their Disneyland park because of coronavirus earlier this week. The most up-to-date announcement of Shanghai Disneyland’s theme park closure is posted on their official website, but you can also read it below:

As a precautionary measure in line with prevention efforts taking place across China, we are temporarily closing Shanghai Disneyland park out of consideration for the health and safety of our guests and Cast Members. We are in close contact with health officials and the local government about the situation and will announce a reopening date once they determine it is advisable. In the interim, we will be providing refunds to guests who have booked tickets to the park or rooms at our resort hotels.

Shanghai Disney Resort will assist in the refund for guests who have purchased tickets for admission to Shanghai Disneyland, have booked a resort hotel, or have booked tickets for Beauty and the Beast Mandarin Production through the original ticket purchase channel.

We will continue to update Inside the Magic as more news is released regarding the Hong Kong Disneyland and Shanghai Disneyland parks. We also continue to wish for the health and safety of China and anyone affected by coronavirus.
