Nobody likes people who check their phone right in the middle of a movie screening…especially Star Wars fans. One person “lost it” after an audience member looked at their phone during an opening night screening of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the footage says it all.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the final film in the Skywalker Saga, the third film in the current Star Wars trilogy, and perhaps the most highly anticipated film of 2019. It’s no surprise that fans have been itching to see this movie, whether it’s because they think it’s going to be great or because they just want to see if their predictions are right. So when we heard that one fan got heated after another person in the audience took out their phone in the middle of the movie, we can’t say we blamed him.
In the video, taken by another person in the audience and shared on social media, you can see a man screaming over the audience that he is “a real Star Wars fan,” and yelling at everyone to turn their phones off. The man had to be escorted out of the movie theater as he shouted expletives at other bystanders, saying he “waited a g—damn year to see this.” Meanwhile, the audience boo’d him.
It took three employees to make him leave the theater. After, they restarted the movie.
“This dude lost it when someone checked their phone screen during the opening of @starwars The theatre was forced to restart the movie from the beginning. The irony was beautiful,” reads the caption of the video shared by Instagram user @thisboycelife. So far, the video has been viewed over 4,700 times in the past 9 hours and counting.

Since the video was shared, dozens of people have commented saying what they would have done in the situation and share their thoughts.
Some agreed with the disgruntled fan and didn’t say he was in the wrong.
“I would’ve just walked out and thanked the dude for saving me from that horrible movie. Why would anyone want to watch that again from the beginning is beyond me,” commented one Instagram user.
“The guy does have a point though! Amen to this guy for standing up in what he believes in !” shared another.
Others shared why they think this wasn’t a good situation.
“Hahahaha!! I was there too. This guy is definitely WAYYYY too highly strung,” said one audience member.
“some people shouldn’t be allowed out in public. If your going to lose your mind this easy, stay home,” another person commented.
From the looks of it, people have pretty mixed views on whether this type of behavior is okay in not just a movie theater, but a screening of the latest Star Wars movie. This may not compare to the original trilogy, but the series as a whole — and this fan’s outburst — is definitely a conversation starter among fans and anyone who keeps up with pop culture.
So what’s your take? Was this passionate Star Wars fan right to be upset when another person in the audience checked their phone? Or should he had just disregarded the act? Let us know in the comments.
