After Frozen 2 and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker dominated the media’s focus, we have some progress to report from within Marvel Studios. Specifically, regarding the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The news is shared by Marvel star Karen Gillan while on a press tour for her latest movie, Jumanji: The Next Level. Gillan, known for her role as Thanos’ second-favorite daughter, Nebula, in the MCU, told Yahoo Entertainment: “I can say that I’ve read it and it’s amazing. We’re all really excited that James is back to complete the trilogy because it wouldn’t have felt right without him. It’s a wonderful, wonderful script.” Gillan is referring to when Gunn was momentarily released from the third Guardians production after a series of old unfavorable tweets nearly made him the latest victim of Hollywood’s vindictive “cancel culture.”
Gillan also mentioned that it’s been a delightful surprise to play Nebula for a Guardians of the Galaxy film and a fifth MCU appearance. She said, “When I signed on to Nebula, it was eight days of filming, and she was supposed to die in the first Guardians film. So to go on and be able to evolve the character and then have her be this pivotal role in Endgame was amazing. I didn’t see it coming at all.” Gillan’s portrayal of Nebula has become a favorite of many Marvel fans. No doubt, it will be interesting to see how this character continues to evolve in the MCU.

Little else is known about the details of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 except that it will not be a part of the MCU’s Phase-Four, and that the film will include Gillan’s Nebula alongside Zoe Saldana’s Gamora despite the events of Infinity War and Endgame. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is still in its pre-production stage.
