A brand-new experience featuring Mickey cartoons is coming to Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios!
The park has been celebrating new lands and new attractions for a while now, from Toy Story Land that opened in June 2018 to the all-new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge that opened on August 29.

One attraction that we are really anticipating is Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, which is being constructed inside the Chinese Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The brand-new “2 1/2-D” attraction will open in Spring 2020, and we can’t wait!

But since we have to wait, we are excited about Disney’s announcement today about another new attraction coming to the Hollywood Studios theater district next spring along with Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway–a new Mickey Shorts Theater.
Disney hasn’t made any specific announcements about what will be shown at the new venue, only that we will need to stay “tooned” to find out!
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway was first announced at the 2017 D23 Expo. The newly-reimagined attraction will be housed inside the Chinese Theater where the Great Movie Ride was from the ride’s initial debut on Opening Day at the park–then called MGM Studios–on May 1, 1989 until August 13, 2017, when the Great Movie Ride rode off into the horizon for the last time.
Disney’s Imagineers have told us that Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction will be a “2 1/2-D” experience, meaning that no 3-D glasses will be needed. The brilliant Imagineers have created new technology that will “turn the flat world of a colorful cartoon short into a dimensional display of amazingness.” Disney fans can experience it soon not only at Hollywood Studios but at Toontown in Disneyland, as well!

Sounds pretty amazing, right? But we will have to wait until the spring of next year to see exactly what the new attraction is all about. And it looks like we will also have to wait for the spring to reveal what’s on tap at the new Mickey Shorts Theater.
What do you think Disney will show at the new Mickey Shorts Theater? Do you think it will be like the Pixar Short Film Festival at Epcot? Let us know what you think and what you hope about the new attraction in the comments below!
