The 2020 Presidential Race is heating up, and literally dozens of people have thrown their name into the ring. Turns out, one of those names could have been Bob Iger. That is, if he didn’t decide to pass up the opportunity.

Yes, there has been some speculation about whether or not he was actually going to run–or at least consider it–but during an interview with the New York Times, the CEO of The Walt Disney Company confirmed that he was indeed thinking about the possibility.

“I think the Democratic Party would brand me as just another rich guy who’s out of touch with America,” he said. “Who doesn’t have any sense for what’s good for the plight of the people.”

Iger also mentioned that Rupert Murdoch was very interested in knowing if he was running. “At that point,” Iger recalled, “I was thinking about it. I didn’t really want to tell him. So I was dismissive. I said ‘You know, a lot of people said I should look at it. My wife hates the idea. Next.'”

Now, one could debate the validity of his real excuse after looking at the net worth of the people running for the Democratic nomination and Iger’s genuinely humble background. But one doesn’t have to debate the fact that Bob Iger has proven himself qualified to take on the position.

Leading a major corporation like The Walt Disney Company has involved many of the same tasks as a President. The Walt Disney Company has had extensive experience include International Business Relations–especially with Mainland China, and they have successfully undertaken an extensive amount of cooperation and dealmaking on a domestic level as well.

However, for better or worse, Bob Iger has decided to stick with the Mouse until 2021. Maybe by then, he’ll be ready to take a shot at the 2024 election.
