Time to head back to a galaxy far, far away! Whether or not you’ve visited Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland yet, you’re going to want to head there soon. Disneyland just revealed the long-awaited opening date of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and fans may be surprised by what Disney has to say.
Disney announced Thursday that Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will open at Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge on January 17, 2020, a few months later than fans anticipated. Interestingly, Disney shared that the attraction’s identical counterpart will be opening on the east coast at Disney’s Hollywood Studios a month prior to Disneyland’s this December.
The opening of Disneyland’s Rise of the Resistance attraction comes later than fans originally expected. Back when Disney first revealed the opening dates of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, it was announced that the land would be opening on May 31 with only one of the two main attractions, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. At the time of the original announcement, fans were under the impression that Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance would be opening a few months later in the fall, although an official opening date was not given. And now that we’re nearing the grand opening date of Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World, we’re not surprised that Disney would finally reveal when fans can have a chance to ride Rise of the Resistance, possibly the most state-of-the-art and technologically advanced attraction the U.S. Disney Parks have ever seen.
Here’s how Disney describes the new attraction:
When it opens, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will blur the lines between fantasy and reality and will put guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Guests will be recruited to join Rey and General Organa at a secret base. Along the way, they will be captured by a First Order Star Destroyer. With the help of some heroes of the Resistance, they break out and must escape the Star Destroyer, protect the secret base, and stay one step ahead of Kylo Ren.
Rise of the Resistance is almost as highly anticipated as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge itself, and it’s clear that Imagineers have made an effort to make the attraction as great as it can be. The attraction feels like the missing piece Galaxy’s Edge has needed since it first opened at Disneyland, so we’re excited for when it finally makes its debut this January.
But as many “Star Wars” fans will agree, we may not want to wait that long…is it time to book tickets to Orlando so we can ride the attraction sooner this December?
