It’s official, “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is now the highest-grossing Spider-Man film of all time with a box-office report of over $970 million in revenue.
The film just earned an addition $21 million this past weekend. However, the film was already performing quite well in its first week alone, when it reportedly raked in over $600 million. Now, the only question for the film is whether or not it will hit the $1 billion mark! If so, this would be the first Spider-Man film ever to reach the incredible box-office feat.
The series’ last film, “Spider-Man: Homecoming” earned $880 million worldwide before leaving theaters. However, this film seems to still be running strong. Although, only a few weeks ago did a report call into question whether or not the film would be the success it is today and if Marvel could continue with the franchise.
According to a report delivered by the entertainment industry newsletter “The Ankler,” it claimed that “Spider-Man: Far From Home” must reach a billion dollars in earnings for Marvel Studios to oversee a third. And if it doesn’t, full control of the character and franchise would have to revert to Sony.
Marvel Studios and Sony first came together to put Spider-Man on the silver screen in 2015. This was when both companies agreed to share the Spider-Man film rights, which lead to a new iteration of Spider-Man being introduced and integrated into the MCU. The deal allows Sony to distribute and have final creative control over MCU films where Spider-Man is the main character, while Disney distributes the ones where he is not.
It’s without a doubt that “Spider-Man: Far From Home” will reach the $1 billion mark at the box-office. And when it does, we’re excited to think about the future for the character portrayed by Tom Holland. As we reported earlier, it’s been said that Marvel has planned at least seven more Spider-Man movies with Tom Holland.
