“Avengers: Endgame,” the film that crushed the box-office over the past two months, is getting re-released in theaters with never before seen footage that didn’t make it into the original cut.
Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, shared the news during a recent press junket in London while promoting the company’s upcoming “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” In an interview with Comicbook.com, Feige stated: “We are doing that,” in reference to an Endgame re-release with new footage. “I don’t know if it’s been announced. And I don’t know how much… Yeah, we’re doing it next weekend.”
In only the first weekend the film was in theaters, it shattered box-office records by pulling in over $1.2 billion. Since this feat, the movie has continued to pull in huge earnings at the worldwide box-office.
Although, as the film approaches its second month in theaters, its earnings have started to simmer out quite a bit. However, with this re-release, it’s believed that the film will have a second chance at possibly bumping “Avatar” to second place at the Worldwide box-office.
Currently, “Avengers: Endgame” is sitting at $2.743 billion at the worldwide box-office while “Avatar” holds the number one spot at $2.788 billion. With Endgame sitting so closely behind “Avatar,” it seems that the movie might have a fighting chance of taking the number one spot with this re-release.
This wouldn’t be the first time a film saw a re-release in theaters. In fact, “Avatar” had a re-release in theaters. The re-release of the epic film included nine additional minutes of footage that had never been seen before and was exclusive to only 3D theaters and IMAX 3D.
The re-release of the film grossed an additional $10.74 million in North America and $22.46 million overseas for a worldwide total of $33.2 million in added earnings for the film.
