REVIEW: Disney’s cult Halloween classic “Hocus Pocus” gets spooktacular 25th Anniversary Blu-ray release

in Disney, Movies, Movies & TV

Hide your children, put on your best Halloween costume, and get ready to get spooky with the Sanderson Sisters once again, as Disney is about to reissue the cult classic family film “Hocus Pocus” on a new 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray disc. The movie’s stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy have never looked better (or more wicked) than in this collector’s release, which is a must-have for any fan of the frightfully fun holiday tradition.

The movie is presented is impressive-quality 1080p High Definition Widescreen (though the 35mm film jitter and grain is still visible on this transfer– a holdover from the pre-HD video days), preserving the movie’s original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1.

Bonus features include the thoroughly entertaining and all-new “We Heart Hocus Pocus: Trivia And Treats Edition,” which isn’t quite an audio commentary, but instead includes a feature-length running inside look with pop-up interview clips, informative text, and fun surprises throughout the film.

This Blu-ray release is definitely worth owning if you’re a fan of “Hocus Pocus,” as it is the first to actually include any bonus features whatsoever, and the “We Heart Hocus Pocus” version of the movie is just a tremendous amount of fun to watch and contains plenty of entertaining tidbits that will enlighten and delight even the most hardcore “Hocus Pocus”-head. But if you’ve already got a previous edition of the “Hocus Pocus” Blu-ray at home and don’t particularly care about bonus features, you may not need to upgrade, as this edition contains the same transfer as seen before.
