Sometimes, all it takes is a piano, a familiar melody, and someone who knows how to turn a passing moment into something guests remember.
Now, a longtime Walt Disney World musician is beginning a new chapter in her Disney career in one of the most recognizable locations on Main Street, U.S.A.
Carol Stein has officially taken her place behind the piano at Casey’s Corner, bringing decades of Disney experience to the popular Magic Kingdom location. Stein is a 36-year Disney cast member whose career has taken her to venues across Walt Disney World.
Her newest assignment puts her right in the middle of the action as guests make their way between Cinderella Castle and the entrance to Magic Kingdom.
And despite spending more than three decades entertaining Disney guests, Stein admits that stepping into a new role still brings a few nerves.
Carol Stein Arrives at Casey’s Corner
Casey’s Corner sits at the end of Main Street, U.S.A., making its outdoor piano one of those entertainment experiences guests can encounter without necessarily planning for it.
Stein is now the featured musician performing outside the restaurant.
For Stein, taking over the role means learning another side of Disney entertainment after spending much of her career performing elsewhere around the resort.
“Casey’s Corner is such a joyful, high-energy place, and I’m thrilled to be part of it,” Stein said. “At the same time, it feels a little like the first day of school.”
That comparison may seem surprising from someone with so much experience, but Stein explained that starting something different still brings excitement and nervousness.
She has spent time preparing new material for Casey’s Corner while also returning to songs she has not had many opportunities to perform in the past. Her goal is to bring both music and energy to the guests who stop to listen.
It represents something new for Stein, but performing music certainly isn’t new to her.
A Disney Career That Started in 1990
Stein’s relationship with music began long before she became a Disney cast member.
A Central Florida native, she grew up around music and started reading music when she was only two years old.
Her Disney career eventually began in 1990 at Pleasure Island.
Stein performed at the Comedy Warehouse, entertaining guests nightly before eventually taking her talents to several other locations across Walt Disney World.
Over the years, guests may have encountered her at the Rose & Crown Pub at EPCOT or during EPCOT festivals. She has also performed at the Hoop-De-Doo Musical Revue at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.
Another important stop in her career was Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, which Disney identifies as a favorite location for Stein.
That makes her arrival at Magic Kingdom more than simply another entertainment change.
Stein has spent decades performing across the resort, and now she is bringing that experience to one of the most heavily traveled areas at Walt Disney World.
A Different Kind of Magic Kingdom Entertainment
Casey’s Corner provides Stein with a setting that feels different from some of her previous Disney assignments.
There is no theater separating the performer from the audience. Guests can encounter the music while walking down Main Street, U.S.A., grabbing food, finding a place to sit, or heading toward another attraction.
Some may intentionally stop for a performance. Others may hear a song they recognize while simply passing through.
That kind of spontaneous entertainment has long been part of the atmosphere at Disney theme parks.
Stein will be playing the ragtime classics associated with the Casey’s Corner setting, but her musical interests extend well beyond those songs. Disney says she also enjoys performing music from composer Alan Menken, including selections connected to The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996).
For Stein, however, performing isn’t only about getting through a setlist.
She sees music as an opportunity to interact directly with the people visiting Walt Disney World.
“As a musician and entertainer, you sometimes forget the impact you can have on people,” Stein said. “Here, through live performance, we get the chance to create those personal connections and touch people’s lives in a really special way.”
That connection can happen in a matter of minutes.
A guest might request a favorite Disney song. Someone else could discover a song they have never heard before. For Stein, either interaction gives her another chance to use music to add something extra to a guest’s day.
Tinker Bell Inspires Her Approach to Music
There is also a Disney character behind some of Stein’s philosophy as an entertainer.
Her favorite is Tinker Bell.
Stein explained that she connects with the character because Tinker Bell likes to fix things. Stein tries to do something similar through music.
If someone arrives feeling down, she hopes a song can make that person happier. If someone is already celebrating and has a particular tune they want to hear, she enjoys being able to provide it.
“Tinker Bell is sassy; she spreads joy, and pixie dust,” Stein said. “That’s what I hope to bring to guests through my music.”
That philosophy fits particularly well with her new location.
Main Street, U.S.A. is often the first and last themed land Magic Kingdom guests experience during their day. It can also become one of the busiest areas of the park, particularly around parades, fireworks, and park opening or closing.
The Casey’s Corner pianist provides something that doesn’t require a reservation, Lightning Lane selection, virtual queue, or even much planning.
Guests can simply stop and listen.
More Than Three Decades at Walt Disney World
Perhaps the most interesting part of Stein’s move to Casey’s Corner is how far into her Disney career this new assignment has arrived.
She isn’t a new cast member discovering Disney entertainment for the first time.
She has been part of Walt Disney World since 1990.
She has performed at resorts, restaurants, EPCOT festivals, and dinner shows. She has watched Walt Disney World evolve around her while continuing to entertain generations of visitors.
Yet Casey’s Corner gives her another opportunity to do something different.
Disney described the move as the latest chapter in a career that has lasted more than three decades. Stein, meanwhile, said she doesn’t take the opportunity to share music with Disney guests for granted.
That longevity makes her addition especially fitting for Main Street, U.S.A., an area where live entertainment and atmosphere remain important parts of the experience.
Guests don’t always remember every attraction they rode or exactly how they spent every hour of a Disney vacation. Sometimes, the smaller encounters become the stories that stick around.
A familiar song coming from a piano can be one of them.
A New Beginning at Magic Kingdom
Stein may have decades of Disney performances behind her, but her arrival at Casey’s Corner shows that her career continues to evolve.
She prepared for the assignment by learning new songs and revisiting older favorites, and she is now bringing that music directly to Magic Kingdom guests.
For longtime Walt Disney World visitors who have previously seen Stein perform elsewhere, her move creates an opportunity to find a familiar entertainer in a completely different setting.
For other guests, Casey’s Corner may provide their first introduction to her.
Either way, Stein now has a new stage.
It just happens to sit outside a restaurant on Main Street, U.S.A., where thousands of people can walk past every day.
After 36 years with Disney, Stein is still finding new songs to play, new audiences to entertain, and new ways to become part of someone’s Magic Kingdom day.
