Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Brand New Day is the fourth film in the MCU’s Spider-Man series, following Homecoming (2017), Far From Home (2019), and No Way Home (2021).
Holland has also appeared as the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover films, Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Brand New Day follows the events of No Way Home, which ended with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) conjuring a spell that made the world forget who Peter Parker (Holland) was, including his girlfriend MJ Watson (Zendaya) and best friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon).
Now, Peter is “fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him” and comes face to face with “a powerful villain no one can even see,” the official synopsis from Marvel says.

Tom Holland Will Pass the Torch to a New Spider-Man
While Holland told The Hollywood Reporter that he “will do it for as long as they’ll have me,” and with Brand New Day confirmed by Sony and Marvel Studios producers to be the first in a new trilogy, a future film may see Holland’s Spidey eventually pass the baton to someone else, which is something he’s also said he’d like to do.
In an interview last month with Hobby Consolas (via IGN), the Odyssey actor elaborated on his “aspirations” for a post-Brand New Day Spider-Man era. And when asked about how his version of the iconic wall-crawler could mentor another at some point in the future, he said he’s already doing his bit to bring Miles Morales into the MCU and hopes that it could happen someday.
“I think at this point in time, we’re being really open-minded about what the future looks like. I know that I have aspirations to bring Miles Morales into the universe, however that works out. You know, we’ve got a lot of work to do to bring that to life.”
During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Holland talked about the eventual “passing of the baton,” explaining, “There’s a whole plan that we have been working on for, I would say, since we finished Spider-Man: No Way Home,” adding, “It’s laid out. It’s going to change for sure, but I have a really clear vision to the passing on of the baton, and I think it’s really exciting.”

Marvel president Kevin Feige has also hinted at Miles Morales making an appearance, telling Watching Hollywood, “We definitely have plans [for a live-action Miles], and I think a live-action Spider-Man movie has this destiny: to add Miles sometime after the Spider-Verse series ends.”
The animated Spider-Man series will conclude next June with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (2027), which follows Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023), with Shameik Moore reprising his voice role as Miles Morales.
What that will mean for Holland remains to be seen; however, earlier this year, he told Empire, “For whoever’s next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter,” adding, “Whatever that looks like, I don’t know. But if I could do what [Robert Downey Jr.] did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset.”
While the prospect of seeing Miles Morales in the MCU is an exciting one, for now, fans remain fixated on Sadie Sink’s character in the new film, who has been kept secret since her casting was announced.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Spoiler Warning!
Now, having seen Brand New Day, we can confirm that Sadie Sink does indeed play the X-Men mutant Jean Grey.
Whether Sink will reprise her role as the X-Men mutant in Avengers: Doomsday (2026) later this year also remains to be seen. She isn’t part of the extensive cast list, and neither is Tom Holland; however, Brand New Day‘s post-credits scene may suggest that Spider-Man will end up on Battleworld, as Ned’s Spidey Tracker showing him (or perhaps another Spider-Man, maybe Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield) moving past Earth and into the cosmos.
