Marvel has spent the last few years reshaping Spider-Man’s future in the MCU, and fans are finally starting to see where things may be heading. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is entering a darker and far more isolated phase after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).
That shift matters because Marvel finally has the perfect setup for one of the most anticipated debuts in superhero movie history.
Miles Morales.
Marvel has teased Miles for years without actually bringing him into live-action. But now, with Peter Parker completely on his own and Spider-Man becoming his entire identity, the studio finally has the right version of Peter to introduce a younger hero underneath him.
For longtime Marvel fans, this feels less like a random direction change and more like the natural evolution of Spider-Man’s story. Peter Parker has always been at his best when balancing responsibility, sacrifice, and mentorship. The MCU may finally be reaching that stage.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Changes Everything for Peter Parker
When Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases on July 31, audiences will see a much different Peter Parker than the one introduced in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). Peter no longer has Iron Man technology, Avengers support, or even friends who remember him.
Instead, he is fully committed to being Spider-Man.
The movie reportedly throws him into battles against villains like Tombstone, Scorpion, and The Hand. Marvel also appears to be leaning heavily into street-level storytelling again, giving the film a more grounded feel than previous MCU Spider-Man movies.
The supporting cast has also sparked major fan discussion.

Sadie Sink’s mysterious role continues to dominate speculation online, with many fans now convinced she is secretly playing Jean Grey after footage from the trailer surfaced. Marvel has not confirmed that theory, but excitement around her casting continues to grow.
Other familiar Marvel faces are reportedly involved as well. Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner will appear, with rumors suggesting audiences could finally see Savage Hulk during a major fight involving Spider-Man. Punisher is also expected to play a role in the movie.
All of this makes Brand New Day feel much larger than a typical Spider-Man sequel. It feels like Marvel is using this film to reshape the future of its street-level universe while also preparing Peter Parker for a completely new role inside the MCU.

Marvel Finally Has the Right Peter Parker for Miles Morales
For years, one major problem held Miles Morales back in the MCU: Tom Holland’s Peter Parker was still too young.
That issue no longer exists.
Marvel’s current version of Peter has now spent years operating alone after the events of No Way Home erased him from everyone’s memory. According to Marvel’s Brand New Day setup, Peter has devoted himself entirely to life as Spider-Man.
That experience changes him into the kind of hero who can realistically mentor someone else.
Kevin Feige has openly discussed wanting Holland to become a more traditional Spider-Man moving forward. Instead of relying on advanced technology or superhero teams, Peter now survives through instinct and experience.
That version of Spider-Man fits perfectly with Miles Morales.
A more experienced Peter can naturally identify with a younger hero struggling with new powers and responsibilities. Marvel finally has a believable foundation for Peter and Miles to share the screen.

Marvel Already Has the Blueprint
Marvel also does not need to guess how this relationship should work because audiences already embraced it through Insomniac’s Spider-Man games.
The 2018 PS4 game introduced an older Peter Parker who had already spent years protecting New York. Miles Morales later entered the story as a teenager learning how to handle his own powers.
Fans loved the dynamic immediately.
Sony eventually gave Miles his own standalone game in 2020 before turning him into a co-lead in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in 2023. By the end of that story, Peter steps back while Miles becomes New York’s primary Spider-Man.
That same type of arc could easily work in the MCU after Holland’s next trilogy.
Fans May Still Be Waiting a While
Even with all the groundwork being laid, Miles Morales probably will not appear anytime soon.
Sony still wants to finish Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse before Marvel uses Miles in live-action. The animated movie is currently scheduled for June 18, 2027, and Marvel reportedly has to wait until that franchise concludes.
There are also major rights issues involved, since Sony owns the live-action rights to Miles Morales.

Any MCU appearance would require another complicated agreement between Marvel Studios and Sony, similar to the current Spider-Man arrangement involving Tom Holland.
Sony has reportedly also explored developing its own live-action Miles Morales project, which could make negotiations even more difficult depending on how both studios plan to use the character moving forward.
Still, Marvel finally appears to be moving toward Miles Morales the right way. Peter Parker is older, more experienced, and emotionally worn down enough to mentor someone else realistically. The setup is finally there.
Now, fans just have to wait for Marvel and Sony to make it happen.
