Tom Holland is still Marvel’s Spider-Man. That much hasn’t changed, at least not yet.
In just a couple of weeks, Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) swings into theaters nationwide on July 31, with Amazon Prime member early screenings beginning July 29 and premium large-format showings launching July 30. After years of anticipation following Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally bringing Peter Parker back to the big screen.
Yet even as excitement builds around Holland’s latest adventure, conversation has already shifted toward something fans rarely want to think about: who comes after him.

The actor himself has made it clear that he doesn’t intend to wear the suit forever. While there’s no indication Marvel Studios or Sony Pictures are preparing to replace him anytime soon, Holland has already revealed the young actor he believes could someday inherit the role.
Tom Holland Has Never Planned To Be Spider-Man Forever
Holland has portrayed Peter Parker longer than any live-action Spider-Man actor before him. Since first appearing in Captain America: Civil War (2016), he’s become one of the defining faces of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring in four solo Spider-Man films and multiple Avengers appearances.
But for years, Holland has been candid about the fact that he doesn’t see himself playing the character indefinitely.
Back in 2021, he famously remarked that if he was still playing Spider-Man after turning 30, he’d feel like he’d “done something wrong.” More recently, however, he admitted that comment was overly simplistic. Rather than setting an expiration date, Holland now says his focus is on eventually helping the next generation succeed instead of simply walking away.
That shift in thinking reflects how his own career has evolved. At 30 years old, Holland has expanded well beyond superhero movies with dramatic roles, stage work, and producing ambitions.
Spider-Man remains a huge part of his career, but it’s no longer the only part.

The Actor Already Knows Who He Wants To Replace Him
During a recent interview, Holland was asked about Spider-Man’s future and whether he had considered who might eventually succeed him.
Rather than avoiding the question, he offered a surprisingly direct answer.
His choice?
The young British actor became one of television’s biggest breakout stars after Netflix’s Adolescence (2025), earning widespread praise for his performance and quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising talents.
According to Holland, Cooper possesses exactly the kind of talent needed to take on such an iconic role, calling him “super-talented” and one of the industry’s hottest young performers.
It’s an unusual endorsement. Actors rarely publicly nominate their own replacements, particularly when they’re still actively starring in the franchise themselves.
More Than A Successor
Holland didn’t simply name another actor.
He also explained the role he’d like to play if Spider-Man is eventually recast.
Rather than disappearing entirely, Holland hopes to become a mentor for whoever steps into the suit next, much like Robert Downey Jr. helped guide him during his earliest Marvel appearances.
He has spoken about wanting to support the next Spider-Man both on and off screen, helping the actor navigate the enormous expectations that come with portraying one of the world’s most recognizable superheroes.
That perspective shows just how much Holland’s relationship with the character has matured.
Instead of viewing Spider-Man as something to hold onto forever, he seems increasingly interested in helping ensure the character remains successful long after his own run ends.

Don’t Expect Marvel To Replace Him Anytime Soon
Of course, none of this means Marvel Studios is preparing to replace Tom Holland.
Quite the opposite.
Everything currently points toward Holland remaining Spider-Man for years to come.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day launches what many fans expect to be an entirely new trilogy following the conclusion of the “Home” series. Holland is also expected to remain a major figure as the MCU continues building toward its next crossover events.
Spider-Man remains one of Marvel’s most valuable characters commercially.
Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) earned nearly $900 million worldwide, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) crossed the $1 billion mark, and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) became one of the highest-grossing superhero films ever made with nearly $2 billion globally.
With numbers like those, neither Marvel nor Sony has much incentive to rush a changing of the guard.
If anything, Holland’s comments simply acknowledge an inevitable reality.
Every Spider-Man eventually passes the mask to someone else.
A New Era Begins This Month
For now, though, all attention remains on Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The film marks Peter Parker’s return after the emotional ending of No Way Home, where the entire world forgot his identity. Early marketing has teased a more isolated Spider-Man while also hinting at dramatic new physical changes for Peter Parker that could permanently alter his powers.
Whether the film launches another billion-dollar trilogy remains to be seen, but anticipation is certainly high as release week approaches.
Eventually, someone new will wear the iconic red-and-blue suit.
Tom Holland seems perfectly comfortable with that idea.
In fact, he’s already picked his favorite candidate.
Marvel just isn’t ready to make that call quite yet.
