Batman has been reimagined countless times since his debut in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. Across film, television, and comics, each era has shaped Bruce Wayne in a different image—from the bright, campy ’60s show take of Adam West to the darker, psychologically driven graphic novel version defined by Frank Miller.
More recently, DC Comics has pushed the character into new territory with Absolute Batman, part of its wider Absolute line that also includes Absolute Superman and Absolute Wonder Woman.
This version of Bruce Wayne strips away the billionaire safety net, reimagining him as a working-class Gotham City engineer who builds his own tools and operates closer to the streets than ever before.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Absolute Batman alone accounts for roughly a third of that figure, quickly becoming one of the publisher’s standout titles.
Now, that momentum is carrying over into gaming with LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (2026), a highly anticipated upcoming release from Warner Bros. Games and DC.
A newly revealed trailer for the game offers the first look at LEGO Batman in his Absolute Batsuit, alongside Absolute Catwoman, confirming that the reimagined versions of these characters will feature in the game among many others. Watch the official teaser below:
Legacy of the Dark Knight Features Multiple Iterations
In a behind-the-scenes video shared last year, DC Studios’ co-CEO James Gunn, who appears alongside key creatives, explains how the game calls upon many versions of the Gotham City hero, saying, “One of the many great things about LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is that it manifests all these different elements of Batman that we’ve loved over the years,” adding that the “game is an absolute celebration of everything Batman.”
Why Legacy of the Dark Knight Sounds Awesome
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is set to include a wide roster of playable characters, spanning multiple interpretations of Gotham’s heroes and allies.
The third-person game will also feature an expansive open-world Gotham City, allowing players to explore key locations while switching between characters, each equipped with unique gadgets, combat abilities, and traversal mechanics.

Classic tools like Batarangs and grappling systems return, alongside updated mechanics designed to reflect different versions of Batman and his allies. The story centers on a large-scale threat facing Gotham, bringing together multiple eras of the Dark Knight mythos.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (2026) is currently slated for release across major platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC. With the addition of Absolute Batman and Absolute Catwoman, the game signals how quickly this new comic iteration has become a central part of DC’s wider multimedia plans.
“Are you ready to build the legacy of the Dark Knight and protect Gotham City™? Prepare your Batarangs and get ready to suit up in 2026,” the official description on Lego.com reads.
“Become the Dark Knight in an open-world LEGO action adventure from TT Games, the award-winning studio behind LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga™. Battle Gotham City’s most notorious Super-Villains and relive the journey of Batman™ from origin to legend – packed with iconic moments and signature LEGO humor.”
Legacy of the Dark Knight is developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Games. It stars Shai Matheson as Bruce Wayne and Matt Berry (The IT Crowd) as Bane.
The game is set to launch on May 22 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC — with the Nintendo Switch 2 version following later in the year.
