The newly established DCU is moving forward with its Batman reboot The Brave and the Bold, an adaptation of the comic of the same name that’s being directed by Andy Muschietti (2023’s The Flash) and will feature a yet-to-be-picked (or revealed) actor as the Dark Knight.
Meanwhile, the wider DC universe is gearing up to release a new Batman installment that draws upon the entire, 86-year-long history of the Caped Crusader, spanning every medium he’s appeared in. And it’s quickly shaping up to be Batman’s answer to the MCU’s Multiverse film Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), something Muschietti’s The Flash failed to deliver.

A New Batman Reboot Is Coming Soon
That reboot is “LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight,” an open-world, third-person action-adventure from developers TT Games (Traveller’s Tales).
So far, we’ve had an initial trailer, and most recently, a behind-the-scenes featurette that dropped on “Batman Day” (September 20), which dives deeper into the game, showcasing everything from storyline to gameplay, and environment to characters.
In the video, TT Games Design Director Mark Green explains how the game draws upon several iterations of Batman and his world from the screen, both big and small, which include Tim Burton’s Batman (1989), Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, Matt Reeves’ The Batman (2022), and the cult-classic ’90s animated series.
“We’ve pulled in all of these references from Batman movies and TV shows,” he says.

It Draws Upon Batman’s History Across All Media
The game also includes inspiration from countless Batman comics, which date back even further than the Adam West-led ’60s show and film.
“One of the many great things about ‘LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’ is that it manifests all these different elements of Batman that we’ve loved over the years,” DC Studios’ co-CEO and Superman (2025) director James Gunn explains in the featurette.
“People can experience this character maybe as fully as they ever have,” he adds, “This game is an absolute celebration of everything Batman.”

It Features Several Characters, With a Big Twist
Unsurprisingly, in true Batman fashion “Legacy of the Dark Knight” also features an extensive roster of characters, including Commissioner Jim Gordon, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Talia al Ghul, The Joker, Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Ra’s al Ghul, and Bane.
While the full cast hasn’t been revealed yet, we know that Matt Berry (The IT Crowd) is voicing Bane, and that Shai Matheson (Manhunt) is voicing Bruce Wayne/Batman, replacing Troy Baker and the late and legendary Kevin Conroy from earlier LEGO Batman games.

But what’s particularly unique about this new game is that many of those characters are inspired by iterations that span the character’s history in film, particularly on the big screen.
There’s Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman from Tim Burton’s Batman Returns (1992), which starred Michael Keaton as the Caped Crusader, Heath Ledger’s Joker from The Dark Knight (2008), which featured Christian Bale as Gotham’s protector, Tom Hardy’s Bane from The Dark Knight Rises (2012), and Jeffrey Wright’s Jim Gordon from The Batman (2022), which debuted Robert Pattinson’s Bat of Gotham.
Now, a brand-new trailer has emerged from the recent annual Game Awards (2025). It’s titled “Heroes & Villains” and it reveals even more Rogues Gallery members, along with which movie version they’re each based on. Watch it below:

As shown in the trailer, the game also features Danny DeVito’s Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin from Batman Returns, Tommy Lee Jones’ Harvey Dent/Two-Face from Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever (1995), which starred Val Kilmer as the Gotham vigilante, and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Doctor Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze from Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin (1997), which saw George Clooney don the iconic cape and cowl.
“Legacy of the Dark Knight” looks like a true Batman Multiverse adventure. While some fans may be disappointed that it’s only a video game, many will be thrilled to finally have an installment that celebrates several character portrayals that span the superhero’s history in cinema, even if they are in brick form.
When Can I Buy “Legacy of the Dark Knight”?
“Legacy of the Dark Knight” will be released on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on May 29, 2026.
Next year will also see the theatrical release of the first installment in a new series of animated films based on the Batman: Knightfall comic books.
There’s no release date for The Brave and the Bold.
