Move over, Tom Holland — another Spider-Man is swinging into action.
Tom Holland Takes a Break From Spider-Man
Tom Holland is taking a short break from Spider-Man: Brand New Day after an accident on a film set in the U.K. Earlier this week, The Sun reported that the 29-year-old actor was believed to have suffered a “fall” that resulted in a “concussion” and a visit to the hospital.
Filming on the MCU’s fourth solo Spidey film — which follows Homecoming (2017), Far From Home (2019), and No Way Home (2021) — was suspended as a result of the incident.

It was also reported that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios were scheduled to meet on Monday, September 23, to discuss a course of action. However, it is not known at this time whether filming has now resumed, or whether Holland is currently fit for work again.
Some outlets reported that the actor is expected to be out of action for at least a week. Either way, the incident seemingly hasn’t impacted the film’s planned July 31, 2026 release date.

A New Spider-Man Swings Into Action
Now, as Holland takes a much-needed break from filming Brand New Day, another Peter Parker/Spider-Man will be swinging into action in the new Disney+ animated miniseries Marvel Zombies, which premieres on the streaming platform today, September 24.
While several actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe reprise their roles in Marvel Zombies, such as Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff/Red Queen), Iman Vellani (Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel), Hailee Steinfeld (Kate Bishop), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian), and Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), unfortunately, Tom Holland hasn’t returned to lend his voice to the infamous wall-crawler.
Instead, Peter Parker/Spider-Man is voiced by 31-year-old American actor Hudson Thames.

If you’ve been keeping your finger on the pulse of all things Spidey and Marvel in recent years, you’ll probably recognize the name Hudson Thames. The Tom Holland voice double previously lent his vocal talents to the beloved web-slinger in the two Disney+ animated shows Marvel’s What If…? (2021) and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2025).
In the trailer for Marvel Zombies, Thames’ Spidey can be seen performing some killer moves (literally), with one particularly standout scene involving him using his webbing to rip the heads off several zombies in one fell swoop. Watch the official trailer below:
Spider-Man Actor Previously in Hot Water
Unlike Holland’s squeaky-clean image, however, Thames previously found himself in hot water in when he told Collider that his “biggest fear” about voicing Spider-Man in the Your Friendly Neighborhood series on Disney+ that it “was gonna be annoying and woke,” which sparked backlash online.
The term “woke” is politically charged and triggering for some people, as it’s often used in a derogatory way to criticize diversity and inclusion in film and television.

Many fans called for Thames to be recast as a result of his comments. He later told Juju Green/Straw Hat Goofy, “So, obviously, something that I said was cherry-picked and used essentially with no context just to kind of stir up some drama.”
He added: “We were talking about that little period of time before the show came out, and I was noticing a lot of comments online that I was getting, that was either people being nervous or expressing concern that the show was using topics of diversity and equality in an inauthentic or disingenuous way.”
Marvel Zombies Features a Massive MCU Cast
Marvel Zombies features a huge ensemble. In addition to the likes of Olsen, Rudd, and Pugh, other returning MCU actors are Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent (Thunderbolts*), Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams/Ironheart (Ironheart), Simu Liu as Xu Shang-Chi (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie (Thor: Ragnarok, Thor: Love and Thunder), and T Randall Park as Jimmy Woo (WandaVision).
Marvel Zombies is scheduled to be released on Disney+ today, September 24. It consists of four episodes and forms part of Phase Six of the MCU.
