An upcoming Jurassic Park sequel set 24 hours after the events of the original film will reunite fans with the world created on screen. But not only will it reintroduce familiar locations such as the Visitor Center, the park gates, and the dinosaur enclosures, it will also feature never-before-seen areas only hinted at in Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster movie.
“Jurassic Park: Survival” promises a “fully realized Isla Nublar” for fans to explore. The trailer for the first-person action-adventure video game premiered quite a while ago now—at the Game Awards in December 2023. Since then, we’ve been fed nothing more than morsels of info, and many fans were left thinking the title had even been thrown on the scrapheap.

However, a newly unveiled behind-the-scenes featurette confirms that “Survival” is definitely happening, with Universal Products & Experiences and Saber Interactive dropping a ton of information, including what to expect from the AI-driven dinosaurs, the game’s lead character Dr. Maya Joshi (who’s played by British actor Payal Mistry), and the environment.
Isla Nublar is being re-created from the ground up, just as it would appear 24 hours after it was battered by a tropical storm, during which dinosaurs like Velociraptor and T-Rex escaped their enclosures. Now, Joshi, an InGen scientist who was unable to evacuate with all the others, must use ingenuity, stealth, and all the resources available to survive the island.

Joshi will be our eyes and ears into re-discovering familiar areas and encounters, as well as discovering all-new ones. While the latter has us very intrigued, it’s the more nostalgic aspect of the game that has us more excited. We can’t wait to explore the Visitor Center’s dark kitchen, visit its rotating movie theater, and hop inside the abandoned self-driving jeeps.
But we’d be lying if we said we weren’t a morbid bunch.
If Universal and Saber Interactive really have built a post-dinosaur breakout Isla Nublar from the ground up, “room by room, level by level” as Executive Producer at Universal Products & Experiences John Melchior says in the video, then surely we should expect to stumble upon characters who ended up at the wrong end of the food-chain in the 1993 film.

This would include Mr. Arnold (Samuel L. Jackson), who was torn to bits by a raptor in the maintenance shed, Robert Muldoon (Bob Peck), who was mauled by a raptor not a stone’s throw from that building, Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight), who was eaten alive by a Dilophosaurus in his gas jeep near the docks, and Donald Gennaro (Martin Ferrero), who was plucked from a toilet on the main road by the T-Rex after it escaped its enclosure.
If “Survival” is going for unparalleled immersion like it promises, then there’s no reason to think that players won’t stumble upon the grisly remains of these characters.

After all, the game is only set 24 hours after the events of the film. Of course, as it’s not fully open world, it’s possible we won’t get to visit those areas until many days — possibly even weeks — have passed since the breakout, meaning the already-rotting carcasses of these characters would have decomposed or perhaps been finished off by other dinosaurs.
But if Joshi’s time on Nublar spans just days, then it would be wise to expect to meet some of our favorite Jurassic Park (1993) characters. Just not in the way we’d have preferred.
If we don’t see the likes of Nedry, Muldoon, and Mr. Arnold, though, “Survival” has confirmed that it’s bringing back the raptor Lex (Ariana Richards) and Tim (Joe Mazzello) locked in the freezer during the kitchen sequence. Until the trailer for the game premiered in December 2023, that dinosaur had been presumed dead by fans for over 30 years.
