The last few months have undeniably been some of the most shocking, exciting, and surprising periods for the Disney theme parks and Walt Disney Company. In August, Disney held its D23 Ultimate Fan Event, an exposition where Disney showed off its latest developments and projects, ranging from exciting new adventures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to brand-new breakthroughs in theme park technology.
The reaction to Disney’s D23 event was mostly positive, with the company making some very big announcements, especially for the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.
Among the many announcements was confirmation that Walt Disney World would get two brand-new lands, one based on Pixar’s Cars franchise and another inspired by the Monsters Inc. series. However, these announcements were met with controversy, primarily due to where exactly the expansions will be located.
Disney has yet to confirm where its new Monsters Inc. land will be located, but the company confirmed that Magic Kingdom’s Cars land would take over the spot of the Rivers of America, meaning the manmade body of water, as well as Tom Sawyer Island’s days are numbered.
However, plenty of things had already begun changing months before D23, with Disney now setting its sights on a legendary opening-day attraction.
Disney Files Permit for Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition

The Walt Disney Company has reportedly filed a permit for its Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition. Located at Disneyland Park, this attraction opened alongside the Disneyland Resort on July 17, 1955, making it part of the exclusive club of opening-day attractions.
Earlier this summer, Disney permanently closed the Florida version of this attraction, leading some to believe Disneyland’s Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition was next on the chopping block. However, with this new permit, it seems Disney plans to keep the shooting exposition around for the foreseeable future.
Twitter/X user ThemeParkIQ shared the news, revealing several upgrades are planned for the attraction.

This permit includes the replacement of multiple electrical components throughout the shooting gallery, as well as the actual control cabinets.
Several guests expressed excitement regarding the news that Disneyland’s shooting exposition would continue operation. Twitter/X user coasters_bgw said, “So that means it’s safe from the scourge on shooting arcades known as DVC right.”

The closure of the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade in Magic Kingdom was met with backlash, with many longtime Disney park fans disappointed by the decision.
Not only was the shooting arcade an opening day experience for the resort, but it was also an easy and totally free attraction for guests to enjoy.
Disneyland’s shooting exposition is one of three remaining shooting arcades, with both Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disney featuring their own versions as well.
