iHeartRadio shared the quote Mariah exclaimed from the loss of her mom and sister, captioning the post, “Sending all of our love to @MariahCarey and her family 🙏❤️”.
While Carey has had lots of joy in her life, she is going through a very difficult time at the moment.
Mariah Carey has shared the heartbreaking news of the simultaneous passing of her mother and sister. In a statement released on Monday, the singer revealed that both Patricia Carey and her sister Alison lost their lives on the same day.
“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” the Grammy-winner told The Hollywood Reporter. “I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
At this time, it is not noted as to what the cause of death was.
According to a Times Union report, Patricia Carey passed away at the age of 87. Her daughter, Alison Carey of Coxsackie, New York, also recently died at the age of 63.

In her 2020 memoir “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” Mariah Carey revealed the complexities of her relationship with her mother, Pat. While their bond was often strained, Mariah dedicated the book to her mother, expressing her love and understanding. However, Mariah’s relationship with her sister, Alison Carey, was reportedly more troubled.
Alison sued Mariah in 2021, claiming the memoir caused her significant emotional distress. In the lawsuit, Alison alleged that Mariah used the book to humiliate and embarrass her. Mariah never responded to the lawsuit, according to court records.
Alison’s longtime friend and caregiver, David Baker, has claimed that she never made any attempt to contact her sister, even during her final days. He mentioned that Alison frequently spoke about feeling abandoned by Mariah and even questioned whether she would attend her funeral.
David shared with The U.S. Sun, “Alison was upset that her ‘baby sister’ had stopped communicating with her.”
He added, “She brought it up often. She questioned if Mariah or any of her family members would show up at her funeral.”
David carried on, “No, Mariah has never tried to contact Alison, even after she was told a month ago that Alison was dying.
“A phone call or, better still, a video call would have meant so much to Alison. But it never came.
We wish Mariah and her family our condolences during this time.
