Here’s what to know before you head to the Southern California Disney parks for next week’s pin release!
New Disney Trading Pins, Every Tuesday
Each Tuesday, Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, and the Disney Store release a new batch of open-edition, limited-edition, and limited-release Disney Trading Pins. The most popular styles sell out within minutes, both online and in-store–but while it’s easier for guests to snag their favorite souvenir online without conflict, in-person releases at shops throughout the Disney parks on both coasts have been rife with mayhem.
Much like with the recent worldwide Lorcana trading card game release, dedicated collectors line up in the early hours of the morning for each weekly Disney Trading Pin drop. Though most guests want to purchase one or two pins for themselves and follow the rules, some resellers and selfish shoppers have resorted to line-cutting or spot-saving, leading to verbal (and sometimes physical) conflicts with other guests.
Now, Disneyland Resort is trying to stop the conflict before it begins.
Disneyland’s New Queue System
On Tuesday, August 4, guests arrived at Disneyland Resort to find that Disney cast members were handing out paper tickets to anyone hoping to purchase the new Disney Trading Pins. WDWNT shared a photo of the slips, which list the store name (in this case, Westward Ho Trading Company) and date:
Disneyland Resort appears to be testing this system at merchandise locations throughout Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, and the Downtown Disney District.
Disney cast members hand out one ticket to each person waiting in line. Guests who receive tickets must turn them in to the cast member at the register when making their purchase, so anyone who joined the line much later (by cutting or spot-saving) would not have one.
According to WDWNT, Disney cast members explained that Disneyland Resort is currently planning to use this system anytime pins inspired by the video game Kingdom Hearts are released. However, it could still be used during other Tuesday drops in the future.
