The update reverses a decision Disney made nine years ago, when the company leaned more heavily into one of its biggest movie franchises.
For guests who remember Adventureland before that 2017 change, the adjustment brings back a piece of the park’s earlier identity. Newer visitors are getting a chance to experience something that disappeared years ago.
Now, Disneyland Paris has restored an element dating back to the resort’s opening year.
Pirates of the Caribbean Became Much Bigger Than a Disney Ride
Long before Captain Jack Sparrow appeared on movie screens, Pirates of the Caribbean was already one of Disney’s most recognizable theme park attractions.
The original Pirates of the Caribbean opened at Disneyland in 1967. Riders board boats and travel through elaborate scenes filled with pirates, treasure, cannon fire, and Audio-Animatronic characters.
The concept eventually expanded beyond California.
Different versions opened at other Disney destinations, including Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris. The Paris attraction debuted alongside the resort in 1992, becoming a major part of Adventureland.
Then Disney turned the theme park attraction into a theatrical franchise.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) became a massive hit, with Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow emerging as the face of the franchise. More movies followed, and their success eventually began influencing the attractions that inspired them.
Disney added Jack Sparrow to multiple versions of the ride, bringing the movies and attractions closer together.
At Disneyland Paris, that connection eventually stretched beyond the ride itself.
Disneyland Paris Restores Its Original Adventureland Music
Adventureland had its own music loop when Disneyland Paris opened in 1992. That soundtrack helped establish the atmosphere surrounding Pirates of the Caribbean and other areas of the land.
Disney eventually took Adventureland in a different direction.
In 2017, Pirates of the Caribbean reopened following changes that introduced Captain Jack Sparrow into the attraction. Disney also replaced Adventureland’s original background music with selections inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
The newer loop drew inspiration from the movie scores associated with Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt. It strengthened the connection between Adventureland and the blockbuster franchise.
That version remained for roughly nine years.
As of summer 2026, Disneyland Paris has reversed course. The original Adventureland music from 1992 is playing throughout the land again.
The move doesn’t remove Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean. Instead, Disney has restored a piece of Adventureland’s original identity outside the attraction.
And Disneyland Paris isn’t the only Disney destination where Pirates of the Caribbean has continued evolving.
Pirates of the Caribbean Changes Animatronic
Disneyland Resort has also made noticeable adjustments to its original Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.
One of the most recent changes came in 2026, when Disney introduced a new transforming Audio-Animatronic figure following an attraction refurbishment.
The effect allows guests to watch the pirate change before their eyes as their boat passes. The figure initially appears as a living pirate before transforming into skeletal form through a combination of projection effects and Audio-Animatronic technology.
The addition brings another supernatural element to the classic attraction while giving Disney a new way to update a familiar scene with modern technology.
And that’s far from the only major change Pirates of the Caribbean has received over the years.
One of Pirates of the Caribbean’s Biggest Updates
One of the biggest involved the attraction’s famous auction sequence.
For decades, the scene depicted pirates auctioning women, including the well-known red-haired woman. Disney eventually reworked the sequence as part of a larger Pirates of the Caribbean update.
Instead of being auctioned, the red-haired character became a pirate herself.
Known as Redd, the character now participates in an auction involving stolen goods rather than women. Disney kept recognizable pieces of the scene while completely changing its context.
The update shows how Disney approaches older attractions. The company often preserves recognizable settings and characters while changing elements it believes need updating.
Disney Looks Back to Adventureland’s Beginning
The latest Disneyland Paris update takes a different approach.
Rather than introducing something new, Disney has removed a change from 2017 and brought back something guests originally heard when the resort opened in 1992.
Pirates of the Caribbean remains closely connected to the movie franchise, particularly through Captain Jack Sparrow. Disney has also shown that the attraction can continue to evolve as individual scenes and effects change.
But Adventureland itself now sounds more like it did before the films became such a major influence on the land.
After nine years of movie-inspired background music, the original Adventureland loop has returned, giving longtime Disneyland Paris fans another piece of the park’s original atmosphere.
