While attendance naturally fluctuates depending on the time of year, with summer, Halloween, and the holiday season among the busiest periods, the resorts remain a major draw for families, tourists, Disney fans, and travelers looking to spend their hard-earned money on entertainment.
From classic attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean and “it’s a small world” to immersive lands such as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, there is seemingly always something new to experience.
Disney is also continuing to expand their resorts.
The new Monsters, Inc.-themed land Monstropolis is currently under construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort and scheduled to open in 2027, while Disneyland Paris is busy developing the official Lion King-themed area, the Pride Lands.
But from November 19 onward, Disney Parks could face some unexpected new competition. That’s because one of the biggest entertainment releases of all time is finally arriving — and it could demand an enormous amount of people’s time, attention, and disposable income.
GTA VI Is Finally Coming
Grand Theft Auto VI isn’t just another video game.
The GTA franchise has become a genuine cultural phenomenon, with previous installments regularly transcending gaming to become major entertainment events, more so than a major new theme park unveiling like Monstropolis.
Grand Theft Auto V, released in 2013, has sold approximately 230 million copies, making it one of the best-selling entertainment products ever created.
Now, after 13 years of waiting, GTA VI is finally scheduled to arrive on November 19, 2026. But the road to release has been anything but straightforward.
Rockstar Games first confirmed that development was “well underway” in 2022, before the first trailer finally arrived in December 2023. A second trailer followed in May 2025, accompanied by a release date of May 26, 2026. Rockstar subsequently pushed the game back to November 19, 2026, saying the additional time would allow the studio to deliver the level of polish fans expect.
The extraordinarily long wait has only made the anticipation surrounding the game grow.
Rockstar has now begun ramping up the marketing campaign again. Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premiered on Netflix on August 27 before becoming available through Rockstar’s YouTube channel and the official game website later that day.
By the time November 19 arrives, GTA VI will have been building anticipation for years.
And there’s another reason why this particular release could be especially relevant to Disney World. GTA VI is set in Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional version of Florida, with the Miami-inspired Vice City at its center. The game will allow players to explore the wider state beyond the city, bringing Rockstar’s exaggerated take on the Sunshine State to life.
That has naturally led to plenty of speculation about whether the game could also include a parody of one of Florida’s most famous destinations: Disney World.

Nothing has been confirmed by Rockstar, and there is currently no official indication that a version of Disney World will appear in GTA VI. However, the possibility has been discussed by fans for years, with some hoping Rockstar will create its own legally distinct version of the famous theme park. Whether or not that happens, the geographical connection is an amusing one.
While Disney welcomes guests to its real-life Florida resort, millions of players worldwide will soon be spending their time exploring Rockstar’s fictional version of the state from the comfort of their own homes.
There is, of course, no way to know exactly how GTA VI will affect Disney Parks attendance. Disney does not announce attendance forecasts based on individual video game releases, and plenty of people will happily play GTA VI while continuing to visit the theme parks.
But it would be difficult to argue that the game won’t command an extraordinary amount of attention.
Will Disney Parks See Crowds Drop?
People have taken time off work for previous Grand Theft Auto releases, while Rockstar’s games have repeatedly become cultural events far beyond the traditional gaming audience.
With GTA VI representing the first mainline entry in the franchise in more than a decade, the scale of the launch is likely to be enormous.
A local who might normally visit Disney Parks could instead spend their evenings exploring Leonida. And Disney Parks have experienced attendance fluctuations before. For instance, Disney World has reportedly seen fewer crowds this summer, with many citing extreme heat and financial concerns.
TEA/AECOM Theme Index, an industry attendance report produced by the Themed Entertainment Association and AECOM, provides a useful illustration of these fluctuations. AECOM describes it as the definitive global attendance study for theme parks.
None of this means Disney Parks are suddenly going to become quiet on November 19. After all, that takes us into the height of the holiday season. But with GTA VI already being treated as one of the most anticipated entertainment releases of all time, Disney Parks will soon find out.
