If you knew it was coming, that is a bonus. If you did not, it can genuinely throw off a ride you were looking forward to all day.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is one of the biggest examples of this at Magic Kingdom, and it is now underway. The first party night of 2026 has kicked off, which means the overlays are live.
Most of the park operates normally during party hours. But three attractions do not, and knowing which ones ahead of time makes a real difference in how you plan your night.

The Three Disney World Rides That Get Halloween Overlays
Out of everything operating during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, three attractions receive overlays.

All three are party-exclusive. You cannot experience these versions on a regular park day, which is part of what makes them worth prioritizing if you have a ticket.
Mad Tea Party
The teacups get a seasonal treatment that changes the entire feel of the attraction.

It is a simple change on paper, but the lighting is what sells it. Spinning with the fun lighting with different music turns a fairly gentle Fantasyland attraction into something with a genuinely different atmosphere.
If you have kids who find the standard Mad Tea Party a little too tame, this version tends to land better.
Space Mountain
This is the one to prioritize, and it is arguably the best overlay of the three.

- All of the lights are turned off
That second point deserves emphasis. Space Mountain already operates in near darkness, but during the party, the lights go all the way off. You genuinely cannot tell when a turn is coming or when a drop is about to hit.
Longtime fans will tell you this is scarier than Haunted Mansion on a party night, and they have a point. There is something specific about losing every visual cue on a coaster you have ridden dozens of times.
Worth noting for context: riding Space Mountain with the lights fully on, which occasionally happens during evacuations or maintenance, is a completely different and much less magical experience. Pitch black is how this ride is meant to be experienced.
Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor
The comedy show goes seasonal, and the format stays intact.

Yes, “that guy” is still part of the show. He may just be dressed as a ghost.
This one is a good option in the middle of the night when trick-or-treat lines are heavy, and you want to sit down in air conditioning for a while without giving up on party-exclusive content.

That is a substantial lineup, and wait times during the party are typically much lower than on a normal park day, which is one of the underrated reasons to buy a party ticket in the first place.
How to Work the Disney World Overlays Into Your Night
A few practical thoughts.
- Space Mountain and Mad Tea Party are both in areas with heavy party entertainment nearby, so they pair well with the Stitch offering in Tomorrowland
- Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor is the best of the three for a break, since it is seated and indoors
- All three tend to be busier later in the night as guests finish trick-or-treating
- None of these overlays exist outside the party, so prioritize them over attractions you can ride any day
If you are trying to fit in the parade, the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular, the fireworks, trick-or-treating, and character meets, the overlays are easy to lose track of. Building even one of them into your plan is worth it.
Party Nights Run Through October 31 at Disney World
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party runs select nights from August 7 through October 31, 2026.
The overlays are only available during the separately ticketed event, so a standard Magic Kingdom day will get you the regular versions of all three.
If Space Mountain in complete darkness sounds like your kind of thing, that alone is a reasonable argument for the ticket.
