Pirates of the Caribbean Closed on July 7
As of the early afternoon on July 7, Pirates of the Caribbean still hadn’t opened to Disneyland Park guests. At the time of this article’s publication, the official Disneyland Resort app listed the boat ride as “temporarily closed.”

This update follows massive fan backlash against Disneyland Resort for replacing a skeleton figure originally used on the 1967 ride with a facial projection-mapped audio-animatronic during the most recent refurbishment. Days later, Disney removed the audio-animatronic due to apparent technical issues and covered its face with a skeleton mask.
At first, Disney Parks fans assumed that the resort had pulled the figure due to poor reception. However, the audio-animatronic returned on July 5. It’s unclear if this closure is related to its recent technical issues. Disneyland Resort has not publicly addressed the closure or provided a timeline for the reopening of Pirates of the Caribbean.
Disney sometimes sends push notifications to guests visiting its parks through its mobile apps when attractions are closed for extended periods, but it has yet to do so in this case. Attraction cast members are instructed not to reveal any technical reasons for closures and to entertain guests while they wait for rides to reopen.
