Toy Story 5 (2026) is now days from release, but fans of the long-running franchise will be invited back into the world of Woody, Buzz, Mr. Potato Head, Rex, and Slinky just a few months after the latest film’s theatrical run ends.

Directed by Andrew Stanton, co-directed by Kenna Harris, and produced by Lindsey Collins and Jessica Choi, Toy Story 5 marks the fifth theatrical outing for Woody (Tom Hanks) and the gang.
The previous film, Toy Story 4 (2019), saw Woody and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) part ways, as Woody accepts that he’s no longer needed in Bonnie’s life. This time, the sheriff and the space ranger reunite and bring the old gang back together to help fight a new enemy: technology!
Pixar’s official description for Toy Story 5 states:
“The toys are back in Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5, and this time it’s Toy meets Tech. Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they’re introduced to what kids are obsessed with today….electronics!”

While Woody and Buzz have led the adventures throughout the series so far, this time, Jessie (Joan Cusack) steps into the lead role.
The fan-favorite cowgirl was first introduced in Toy Story 2 (1999), and fans will of course remember her heartbreaking backstory. Unsurprisingly, though, there has been some backlash from fans around the decision to spotlight a female character in the upcoming sequel.

Speaking of girl power, the film’s title song is performed by none other than Taylor Swift. The song is called “I Knew It, I Knew You,” and it’s inspired by Jessie and her journey throughout the film series so far, hence the country music style, which is also a return to the singer’s early career.
While there’s a lot of buzz surrounding the film in the lead up to its release, fans have also had their attention turned toward another corner of the franchise following a major announcement.
