Walt Disney World Resort has confirmed the closure of yet another portion of Frontierland at Magic Kingdom Park as construction continues on a new area inspired by Cars (2006). Here’s what Central Florida Disney Park guests need to know about the latest changes at The Most Magical Place on Earth.

On June 2, several Disney Park guests reported that a portion of the boardwalk running from Liberty Square into Frontierland at Magic Kingdom Park was surrounded by plywood construction walls. Like the former Big Al’s merchandise kiosk, this area has been closed due to the ongoing construction of the Cars-inspired Piston Peak National Park.

The first portion of the Frontierland boardwalk has closed to guests. New pavement in the area also removes the officially unofficial “Little Mississippi”

The walls reveal a newly repaved red section of the walkway and cover up a water feature unofficially known as “Little Mississippi.” They’re accented with wooden fence details and rolling planters. At this time, construction crews appear to be focused on building a retaining wall that will partially surround Piston Peak National Park.

At D23 2024, Walt Disney World Resort announced that a new Cars-themed area was coming to Frontierland at the Magic Kingdom. The Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat all closed last year to make way for the new mini-land, and construction has been underway ever since.

Piston Peak National Park, inspired by the landscapes of national parks throughout the United States, will feature two Cars-inspired rides that differ from those in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park: a rally race thrill ride and a family-friendly attraction introducing a new character, Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore.
