For Disney California Adventure fans, one of the park’s most emotional nighttime shows is finally making a comeback.

After spending more than a year away, World of Color – ONE is officially returning to Paradise Bay for a limited-time run during the Halloween season. The nighttime spectacular has been absent for roughly 15 months, and now Disney fans are finally getting another chance to experience the massive projection show that originally debuted as part of the Disney100 celebration.

Disney confirmed that the show will return beginning August 10 and continue through the Halloween season at Disney California Adventure. For many guests, this is a pretty big surprise. A lot of fans assumed the show may quietly disappear after Disney introduced World of Color Happiness! earlier this year. Instead, Disney is bringing back one of the newer versions of the nighttime spectacular lineup, giving visitors another opportunity to see a production that mixed classic Disney animation with themes centered around hope, unity, and emotional connection.

The return also adds another layer to what is already shaping up to be an incredibly busy Halloween season at Disneyland Resort.

A Show That Originally Debuted During Disney100

When World of Color – ONE first premiered in early 2023, Disney positioned it as one of the centerpiece offerings for the company’s 100th anniversary celebration. Unlike previous versions of World of Color, this show leaned heavily into Disney storytelling about connection and inspiration.

The nighttime spectacular featured scenes from films like Encanto (2021), Turning Red (2022), Moana (2016), Star Wars, Marvel projects, and several Pixar favorites. Disney also built the show around the idea that a single action or moment can create a ripple effect that changes the world around us.

Visually, it looked stunning. Massive fountains stretched across Paradise Bay while projection effects covered nearby structures with vibrant colors, animated sequences, and light effects synchronized to music. The combination of water, fire, lasers, and projection mapping gave the show a much different feel compared to earlier versions of World of Color.

Not every fan connected with the emotional message the same way, but most guests agreed that the technology behind the production was impressive.

One of the more memorable additions arrived in 2024 when Disney added the “Emotional Rollercoaster” pre-show tied to Inside Out 2 (2024). That segment helped refresh the experience and gave returning guests something new before the main performance began.

Now, after more than a year away, Disney is bringing the show back into the spotlight once again.

Disneyland’s Halloween Season Keeps Growing

The timing of the return makes a lot of sense.

Halloween has slowly transformed into one of Disneyland Resort’s biggest seasons of the year. What used to feel like a smaller seasonal celebration has evolved into a major event that attracts massive crowds from August through October.

Over at Disneyland Park, guests will once again see giant Mickey pumpkin displays, themed décor lining Main Street, U.S.A., and attraction overlays like Haunted Mansion Holiday. Disney California Adventure also gets its own seasonal identity during this time, especially with Oogie Boogie Bash taking over select nights.

Bringing back World of Color – ONE gives Disney California Adventure another major nighttime offering during one of the resort’s busiest stretches.

Nighttime entertainment has become increasingly important for Disney parks in recent years. Guests are no longer visiting just for rides. Many travelers now build entire vacation days around fireworks, parades, and nighttime spectaculars. Disney clearly understands that these entertainment offerings help keep guests inside the parks longer while also creating viral social media moments that spread across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.

A returning nighttime show like this naturally creates additional excitement, especially for guests who missed it during its original run.

The Schedule Could Create Long Evenings

While Disney has not yet released the complete entertainment calendar for August, recent nighttime schedules may provide a preview of what guests can expect.

Current World of Color performances have often been scheduled around 9:00 p.m. and 10:15 p.m., though some nights only feature a single performance. If Disney follows a similar structure for World of Color – ONE, guests could once again see late-night crowds forming around Paradise Bay well before showtime.

That area already becomes one of the busiest sections of Disney California Adventure at night. People frequently begin saving spots early, especially during weekends and holidays.

The return of the show may also impact Lightning Lane viewing packages and dining reservations connected to nighttime entertainment. Disney has increasingly leaned into dining packages for fireworks and nighttime shows, giving guests reserved viewing sections in exchange for restaurant reservations or dessert parties.

With Halloween crowds expected to be heavy again this year, demand for those packages could rise quickly.

Why Fans Are Excited About the Return

Part of what makes this comeback interesting is how quickly World of Color – ONE developed a loyal following despite not being around very long.

Some Disney nighttime productions take years to build nostalgia. This one managed to connect with fans relatively quickly because of its emotional soundtrack, modern Disney film representation, and updated effects package.

A lot of longtime Disneyland visitors also appreciate when Disney rotates entertainment offerings instead of permanently locking the parks into one version forever. Bringing back previous shows helps create variety and gives returning visitors a reason to experience the parks differently from one trip to the next.

It also creates urgency.

Disney specifically described the return as limited-time, which means there is no guarantee the show will remain after the Halloween season ends. That type of language usually encourages more guests to prioritize seeing it while they still can.

For Disney fans who never experienced the show the first time around, this may be the best opportunity to finally watch it in person.

Disneyland’s Entertainment Lineup Is Becoming More Competitive

The return of World of Color – ONE also continues a much larger trend happening across Disney parks right now.

Disney has been investing heavily in nighttime entertainment again after several years where some parks scaled back offerings following the pandemic. Fans have repeatedly shown that nighttime spectaculars remain some of the most important experiences Disney offers.

Whether it is fireworks at Magic Kingdom, Fantasmic! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or World of Color in California, these productions help define entire vacations.

Disneyland Resort especially has become more competitive with its entertainment lineup over the past few years. Instead of relying on just one nighttime attraction, Disney now rotates multiple offerings throughout the year to keep the parks feeling fresh.

That strategy appears to be continuing with the return of World of Color – ONE.

And honestly, bringing back the show during Halloween season feels smart. The parks already carry extra energy during that time of year, and a fan-favorite nighttime spectacular only adds to the atmosphere.

For guests planning late summer or fall Disneyland trips, this announcement may suddenly move Disney California Adventure much higher on the priority list.

After 15 months away, the fountains at Paradise Bay are getting ready to light up once again.
