Although he has the advantage of the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe on his side, Tom Holland has had the most appearances as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in cinema. After debuting in Captain America: Civil War (2016), he reprised his role as the character in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).

Even if you only count his solo outings, that will still be four by the time the new film Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) hits theaters this July. Either way, he’s clocked in more wall-crawling action than Tobey Maguire, who led the Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man trilogy (2002-2007) and returned in No Way Home. That leaves Andrew Garfield at the bottom, having only appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man duology (2012-2014) and No Way Home.

But at least Garfield will soon be joined by Jake Johnson, who plays Peter Parker of Earth-616B in the animated films Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023), and will return in next year’s threequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (2027).

Another Spidey Series That Deserves Attention

Whether in live-action or animation, New York City’s web-slinger’s appearances in film are stacking up, but the likes of Garfield and Johnson are yet to complete their respective Spider-Man trilogies. Away from cinema, however, there’s another version of our friendly neighborhood hero who’s also yet to get the third entry in his series: Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Fans of Spidey will be familiar with Insomniac’s games: Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018), Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (2023), and the spinoff Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020). These third-person titles allow players to take on the role of the beloved superhero and explore a massive, sandbox-style Manhattan, complete with supporting characters, iconic villains, side-missions, and everything that makes a great Spidey adventure what it is.

Another Spidey Trilogy Is Nearly Complete

Now, it seems Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 (TBA) is on the verge of being announced after Ben Jordan, a face model for the games’ Peter Parker (voiced by Yuri Lowenthal), posted a picture to Instagram in his motion-capture gear with the caption “IYKYK” (which means “if you know, you know”) with a spider emoji before swiftly deleting it in true Spidey style.

Jordan previously replaced John Bubniak as Peter Parker in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered (2020) for PS5, with Insomniac explaining at the time that the decision to recast the mo-cap actor was about “finding a better facial match for actor Yuri Lowenthal.”

But it seems Jordan’s social media post-deleting skills weren’t anywhere near as fast as the Internet’s own spidey sense. Now, fans are convinced Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 is in the works.

The New Project Might Not Be Spider-Man 3

While Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 feels inevitable given the series’ critical and commercial success so far (Insomniac has also previously discussed the project and other possible spinoffs including Venom), it’s possible that Jordan’s tease is actually in relation to Insomniac’s upcoming title Marvel’s Wolverine (2026), which releases on September 15.

Last year, during an interview with YouTube channel Kinda Funny Games, Insomniac Games’ Senior Creative Director Bryan Intihar confirmed that both the Marvel’s Spider-Man trilogy of games and their upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine take place in Earth-1048.

While a future crossover is possible, we may first see Spidey show up in the Wolverine game.

After a long wait since its initial announcement teaser, Marvel’s Wolverine was properly unveiled last year with a first official trailer that shows a very feral Logan (voiced by Gears of War 4‘s Liam McIntyre) in a brutal, third-person action-adventure. Watch the trailer below:

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

The next major Spidey project on the big screen is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which releases in theaters on July 31. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, it sees Tom Holland reprise his role as Peter Parker, alongside returning actors Zendaya (MJ), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds). Stranger ThingsSadie Sink has been cast in an undisclosed role, while Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo also reprise their roles as Frank Castle/The Punisher and Bruce Banner/The Hulk from the MCU, respectively.

There are also reports that Sony is planning on developing a Spider-Man & Wolverine movie, following rumors that the opening scene of the upcoming crossover film Avengers: Doomsday (2026), which releases in theaters on December 18, features appearances from Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine.
